INTERN – Programme Support Assistant (2 Posts) [Temporary]
Responsibilities
- Under the guidance of the Partnership Coordinator
and the Communication Coordinator of the UN Decade, the intern will
support the UN Decade on Ecosystems Restoration core team in undertaking
the following activities:
- Support in the establishment and management of
partnerships for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (e.g. developing
tool kits and guidelines, partner communication channels, knowledge management);
- Support the day-to-day communication and official
correspondence of the UN Decade core team;
- Provide administrative, project management, and
information management support;
- Assist with the organization of internal and
external meetings and outreach events, developing necessary background
materials, and report writing;
- Carry out other duties on a need’s basis.

Education
- Applicants must, at the time of application, meet
one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second
university degree or equivalent, or higher) focused on environmental
policies, natural sciences, political sciences, social sciences, cultural
studies, or related fields;
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first
university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
- Have graduated with a university degree.
- Applicants must be pursuing qualifications in an
area of study that can significantly contribute to the responsibilities
outlined and overall work of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration Unit
including:
- Be computer literate in standard software
applications;
- Possess good report writing skills;
- Demonstrate pleasant interpersonal skills;
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully
interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs,
which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of
differing opinions and views;
- Have a keen interest in the work of the United
Nations and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
- Upon completion of the assignment it is
anticipated that the Intern will:
- Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the
United Nations and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN
Charter;
- Have improved communication skills through
interaction with UNEP staff, Executive and Senior Management, governments
and partner organizations;
- Have gained a better understanding of UNEP’s
operations and the overall United Nations system.
Work Experience
- No working experience is required to apply for the
United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance
course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your
internship.
Languages
- English and French are the working languages of
the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship fluency in oral and
written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an
advantage. NOTE: “Fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas
(read, write, speak, understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of
“confident” in two of the four areas.

hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual
discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into
consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time
difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.
