Position: ICT Security Officer

Job description
As part of a team responsible for ICT Security Services the jobholder will be charged with the development and implementation of a comprehensive information and cyber security program that facilitates information security governance and management towards the protection of University information assets and resources by ensuring they have adequate controls to provide for their confidentially, integrity and availability in line with institutional requirements as well as to comply with applicable laws and regulations, for business risk reduction. This is to be accomplished by working closely with ICTS staff, University departments/offices, University staff, University management, vendors, auditors, among other stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Project Management: To ensure allocated ICT security systems and services projects are well planned and managed professionally using appropriate project management methods and techniques to minimize risks to the University, while fully realizing expected business benefits within time and budget constraints.
  • System & Data Access: Maintain access rules to ICT systems and resources including applications and data and ensuring appropriate access control procedures are adhered to meet defined security standards while maintaining supporting documentation, and that access is based on least privilege and need basis, towards maintaining confidentiality and integrity of data.
  • Systems Security & Change Management: Liaise with the systems analysis, systems design, and systems development teams to provide security design review and approval for new University ICT systems and/or services as well as proposed changes to existing systems and/or services. Further is to work closely with ICT teams in their role as system custodians, as well as system owners, to deliberate on security risks affecting the respective systems, and by acting as subject matter expert on information and cyber security, recommend and follow up on implementation of appropriate controls an agreed remediation measures, which may involve a change in process or rollout of a new technology.
  • ICT Disaster Recovery (DR) Planning: Ensure development and maintenance of current DRPs that ensure systems’ resilience to support ongoing University operations. Further is to ensure ongoing testing of system backups through scheduled or ad hoc restoration exercises involving business systems owners’ signoff and making and recommending relevant adjustments to the plans as may be necessary in order to be within stipulated & expected timelines and thresholds (i.e. RPO, RTO, and SDO etc.).
  • Business Continuity Management (BCM): Be part of the team leading Business Continuity Management (BCM) coordination for ICTS in the University, charged with conducting awareness and coordinating ICT Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and DRP activities towards ensuring meticulous operation of the plans in time of an information/cyber security incident or disaster.
  • Information Security Incident Management: Be involved in the establishment of mechanisms for information and cyber security incident response management including monitoring, detecting, remediating and fully investigating security breaches to establish and treat the root cause (s) so as to minimize future occurrences as well as perform impact analysis.
  • Risk Assessment and Audit: Proactively monitor current and emerging information and cyber security risks and changes to laws and regulations that may present new business risks, and to detect weaknesses in the design and implementation of controls, carry out vulnerability assessment and penetration testing on University’s ICT systems, report identified weaknesses and follow-up on corrective action and its effectiveness. Further, is to engage and support internal and external auditors in their assignments and subsequently assist in laying effective remedial plans to resolve audit findings touching on information and cyber security matters including reporting on progress of corrective action.
  • Information & Cyber Security Awareness and Training: Design, recommend and carry out Information and Cyber Security awareness and training campaigns for all University stakeholders/constituents towards creating a culture of consciousness about information and cyber security risks and the different ways in which to avoid or mitigate such risks.
  • Policy Formulation and Compliance Monitoring: Participate in the formulation, review and updating of information and cyber security policies, related standards, procedures and guidelines and oversee their approval, dissemination and maintenance.
  • Professional Development: Grow and maintain professional development by attending educational workshops/seminars/conferences, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks and participating in professional societies.
  • Reporting and ICT Committees: Support decision making by formulating appropriate technical as well as managerial metrics and insights and using those to design concise and simple reports to apprise senior IT management, respective ICT Committees and/or business management on matters pertaining to the posture of ICT Security according to agreed schedule/cycles or on ad hoc basis. This further involves being part of and actively contributing to applicable ICT Committees.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT), Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications (BSc. TC), Bachelor of Science in Informatics and Computer Science or an ICT related degree qualification.
  • Windows, Linux Certification etc.

  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in a highly automated and busy ICT environment.

Job description

Job description
Working closely with the ICT Enterprise Application Services (EAS) team, business-line teams and other ICT leadership teams the jobholder will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and supporting the University’s ICT Enterprise Application Systems so that they continue to drive business operations and offer spectacular user experience across University constituents and stakeholders. Specifically, the jobholder will focus first, on University Data Warehouse and Analytics Systems before assisting in other ICT Enterprise Application Systems.  Further, the jobholder will work synergistically with enterprise architecture, infrastructure, security, quality assurance and other ICT teams to innovate and to expeditiously resolve issues around ICT systems processes and services.
Responsibilities
  • System Analysis and Design: Support the respective business owner/ department to gather and document requirements for new data requirements and to translate this into appropriate systems designs that have well defined auditability requirements and security standards.
  • System Development: Propose new systems and/or modify existing systems through software coding and testing, in order to viably meet the data requirements of the respective business owner or University department while using appropriate methods that effectively meet system security requirements. Job description 
To develop and keep updated project management methodologies and guidance to be used for ICT- related projects within ICTS and across the University. Further is to develop and drive mechanisms for the adoption of this good practises including setting standards and ongoing
monitoring of compliance to the same so that University ICT-related projects realize optimal value for the University and in a timely manner while ensuring risks is managed. In addition, it will involve supporting the propagation, monitoring and enforcing the wider ICT assurance framework across the
University.
Responsibilities
  • ICT Project Planning Assurance: Support the design of project plans for ICT projects by ensuring identification and documentation of objectives including specifying timelines for the project milestones and following up to ensure projects progress well and are finalized according to set
    deadlines and budget. It also includes ensuring estimation of the resources needed to achieve project goals, conducting risk assessment and implementation of risk mitigation plans.
  • ICT Project Resource Management: Estimate resources for projects including staffing and budget to enable successful completion of ICT projects. Identify and select ICT project roles and suitable team members. Monitor the budget for ICT projects working with the project team. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.
  • ICT Assurance Framework: As part of the team overseeing the University ICT process assurance function, help in setting direction and definition of the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ for all key ICT processes as well as their seamless interactions. This is to be done with an appreciation of IT industry best practise as well as academia and institutional evolving strategic & operational context. These processes include but are not limited to ICT project management, service delivery, incident and problem management, among others. It will further involve monitoring and follow-up to ensure resolution of any non-compliance.
  • System Analysis and Design: Support the respective business owner/ department by working closely with respective ICTS teams to ensure proper gathering and documentation of functional and technical requirements for new systems or proposed change is a system and to translate this into
    appropriate systems designs that fall within the established technology roadmap and have wellarticulated technical quality requirements such as meeting auditability and security standards.
  • Project Coordination: Facilitate flow of essential project information among project stakeholders to enable effective communication. Document and communicate ICT project expectations to project team members and stakeholders with timeliness and clarity. Build and maintain working relationships with the project team and stakeholders. Provide information flow between the customers (internal and external), software development team, and other technical teams.
  • Project Management Training and Sensitization: Enhance efficiency and effectiveness in project management practise in the University, by identifying gaps and assisting in training project teams on ICT project management.   • ICT Project Delivery: Ensure project delivery by maintaining project calendar and milestones. Position: Specialist ICT Desk & Training
Location: Nairobi
Department: ICT Services (ICTS)
Reporting To: Assistant Manager, ICT Client Support Services
Job description
Working in a team responsible for University-wide ICT Client Support Services, the jobholder will be a key pillar in driving ICT service delivery towards ensuring the efficient and effective running of all ICTS services in meeting user expectations and/or existing Service Level
Agreements (SLA). Further, it will be including driving and coordinating end-to-end processes pertaining to all training efforts within ICTS in meeting established training needs and gaps for all University constituents (i.e. student, staff etc.). It will also include close follow-up of ICT service desk
operations to ensure proper and fast assignment of incidents to respective technical teams within ICTS and to further design necessary escalations and well thought out reporting mechanisms on service delivery.
Responsibilities:
  • User Relationship Management: Ensure that an ongoing level of engagement with the users is maintained proactively and on an ongoing basis towards building trust in the quality of ICT services as well as capturing evolving needs of users. Further is to establish, maintain, and increase client satisfaction through professional, courteous, and caring service.
  • Issue Resolution: Drive incident and problem management by resolving Level I calls (MS Office, User permissions, Internet Access, Printing errors, etc.) over the phone or remotely by employing comprehensive problem analysis to resolve the issue while applying good customer service skills.
  • Ticket (Incident or Request) Management: Ensure that all requests and incidents are captured accurately in the ticketing system and that tickets are allocated in a timely manner to the various technical teams across all ICTS sections (i.e. especially for level II and level III calls) for fast resolution and closure. Further is to closely monitor, and to conduct follow-ups & escalations on requests and incidents (i.e. open tickets) as may be necessary to ensure efficient and effective resolution.
  • Training manual & Schedules Management: Develop and conduct user training programs as well as maintain and update system procedure manuals to improve on performance standards. Further is to engage different stakeholders and respective course facilitators (internal or external) in coming up with a concise training schedule and material.
  • End-user ICT training & awareness: facilitate ICT-related induction processes for new employees and students, as well as ongoing and remedial training for existing staff and students based on identified competency gaps, culminating in a dynamic ICT training plan and schedule for the year/period. This should be well communicated to users to ensure optimal participation and impact.
  • Innovation and Technology Management: Ensure that there is proper end-user computing hardware and software matching and tuning for best performance, and to keep accurate records of maintenance schedules both planned and already executed. Further is to research on evolving hardware and software technologies that provide opportunities for improved digital experience to University constituents and to propose adoption of the same to ICTS leadership team.
  • ICT Service Delivery and Documentation: Apart from refining service desk operations to meet best practise so as to optimize related processes (i.e. incident management, problem management, change management, configuration management etc.), it will include formulation of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), write-ups and manuals for all services offered by ICTS are made available and are communicated to all users. Further is to maintain and update a knowledge base for ICT Services towards enhancing self-service as well as speed of issue resolution and to also monitor service delivery through periodic user satisfaction surveys.
  • Talent Development and Supervision: Guide, mentor and coach supervisees in growing their technical, interpersonal and organizational skills. This further involves assigning supervisees, tasks and responsibilities and monitoring delivery of the same.
  • Professional Development: Grow and maintain professional development by attending educational workshops/seminars/conferences, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks and participating in professional societies.
  • Reporting: Support decision making by assisting in formulation of appropriate technical as well as managerial metrics and insights and using those to design concise and simple reports to apprise supervisor and senior IT management on matters pertaining to ICTS services on an agreed schedule/cycles or on ad hoc basis. These include but are not limited to: Weekly Activity Reports, Checklist Reports, and Ticket Resolution Reports among others.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Business Information Technology or related field from a recognized institution with a minimum of Second Upper qualification.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in ICT Client Support Services within a busy and highly automated ICT environment.
  • IT Service Management (ITIL, ISO 20000, etc.)
  • Vendor technical certifications (CCNA/HP, MCITP or MCTS, LINUX etc.)

Position: ICT Business Analyst & Solutions Architect
Department: ICT Services (ICTS)
Reporting To: Manager, ICT Strategic and Assurance Services
Job description
Work closely with ICTS section heads and teams and business line managers and teams to define and build consensus around ICT technology roadmaps and further to assist in the design of proposed ICT solutions across the ICTS and the University so as to ensure they fall within
these defined roadmaps. Further, the jobholder will provide proper and timely support for business analysis to business- line leading to conceptualising of fit-for-purpose systems designs that meet key technical and functional quality requirements leading to acquisition (buy) or development (build) of
the proposed systems.
Responsibilities:
  • ICT Enterprise Architecture: Support the definition and delivery of ICT enterprise architecture and architecture review processes, which provide a holistic view of the processes, data, application systems and technology infrastructure that exists within the University in order to lay strategic context for planning the evolution of institutional information systems into an integrated environment that is responsive to change and supports the delivery of the University’s strategy.
  • System Analysis and Design: Support the respective business owner/ department by working closely with respective ICTS teams to ensure proper gathering and documentation of functional and technical requirements for new systems or proposed change is a system and to translate this into appropriate systems designs that fall within the established technology roadmap and have wellarticulated technical quality requirements such as meeting auditability and security standards.
  • System Development Assurance: Ensure proposed systems development projects adhere to established methodologies across the systems development life cycle (SDLC).
  • System Documentation: Work closely with systems developers, consultants and the ICTS team to ensure completeness of user documentation as well as technical documentation for respective automations projects and systems.
  • System Testing and Quality Assurance: Leads or provides direction for the planning, designing, and execution of user testing efforts including overseeing implementation (i.e., testing, issues resolution) of new systems or modifications and analysing testing results to ensure the solution meets the needs of the business.
  • Project Management: Participate in work stream planning process including inception, technical design, development, testing and software solutions including developing work plans or reviewing other work plan timelines while managing workflows to meet timeframes. This may further include
    participating in project management estimation process, managing and planning for service demand forecasts.
  • Business Analysis and Innovation: Identify and provide input to new technology opportunities that will have an impact on the enterprise wide systems while advising business line on opportunities for optimization through change in processes, practices and technologies towards improving business management and optimization.
  • Talent Development and Supervision: Guide, mentor and coach assigned, as well as other ICTS staff in growing their job-related technical skills, organizational skills, team spirit and leadership capacity. This further involves assigning supervisees, tasks and responsibilities and monitoring delivery of the same in meeting University service delivery requirements and expectations.

Qualifications
