Locum Opportunity
The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu is an institution of the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, which is an Agency of the Aga Khan Development Network.
The hospital is part of a network of health facilities, which includes Hospitals and Outreach Health Facilities across East Africa.
The Aga Khan Hospital is in an exciting growth phase and has attained acknowledgment of its quality by achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 15189:2012 accreditation for laboratory services and is at an advanced stage of attaining Joint Commission International Accreditation.
The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu has outreach Health Services at Kisii, Kakamega, Kitale, Bungoma, Kericho, Kibuye-Kisumu, West End- Kisumu, Busia, Homa – Bay, Kapsabet, Migori, Bomet and Narok.
The hospital is seeking qualified candidates to fill Locum positions for the year 2020 in our 13 outreaches for a duration of either 3 months, 6 months or 1-year dependent on the need of the hospital, suitable candidates needs to possess the ability to organize and prioritize work, analytical with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills, can work in teams.
Candidates should have licensure and registration with relevant practitioners’ boards and updated membership with professional bodies to fill the positions listed below:
Medical Officer (Locum)
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing consultancy and quality clinical judgment to patients in Ambulatory and Emergency Medicine.
Other Responsibilities:
·         Assessment of patient and manage the patient case.
·         Performance of investigative and therapeutic procedures.
·         Perform minor surgeries.
·         Re-asses and follow up patients.
·         Be a good team player and work harmoniously with colleagues.
·         Comply with the hospital Confidentiality and privacy policies.
Qualifications
·         M.B.Ch.B or equivalent from a recognized University.
·         More than one – year working experience.
·         Must be Registered / Licensed by the Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.
·         Competency in emergency procedures e.g. ACLS, ATLS etc. will be an added advantage.
·         Excellent public relations and communication skills.

Pharmaceutical Technologist (Locum)
The successful candidate will provide both quality pharmacy services and healthcare in the Medical Centre.
Qualifications
·         Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from KMTC or equivalent from a recognized institution.
·         Must be registered and licensed by the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board
·         Over one year working experience in a busy pharmacy
·         Over one year in inventory control and management
·         Knowledge in Computer Packages will be an added advantage

Radiographer / Sonographer (Locum)
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing safe, efficient, high quality diagnostic imaging services to both inpatients and outpatients through the use of modern imaging technology that includes computerized X-ray machine and multi probe ultrasound unit.
Key Responsibilities
·         To undertake initial patient evaluation, provide diagnostic radiographs, perform ultrasound and Doppler examinations by capturing images of diagnostic value.
·         Ensure radiation safety measures and protection are observed to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety to patient’s staff and self.
·         Ensure scheduled maintenance, and calibration of medical equipment are in place and followed.
·         Ensure accurate documentation and care of patients’ records.
Qualifications
·         Higher Diploma in Ultrasound
·         Two (2) years working experience in similar position
·         Registered and licensed by The Kenya Radiation Protection Board
·         Good communication skills.

Nursing Officers (Locum)
The successful candidate will provide quality nursing services including performing necessary procedures at the Medical Centre.
Key Responsibilities
·         Initiates nursing process.
·         Ensure safe custody and correct administration of drugs.
·         Implement prompt action on doctors’ orders.
·         Communicate effectively to relevant departments on patients’ concerns and conditions.
·         Coordinate safe transfer of patients
·         Support administrative functions of the clinic when called upon to do so.
Qualifications
·         Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse or Kenya Registered Nurse / Midwife.
·         Basic Life Support /Advanced Cardiac Life Support and any other specialty certification will be an added advantage.
·         Over one-year experience in a Medical / Surgical setting in a busy medical institution.
·         Valid Kenyan nursing practice license.
·         Working knowledge of a Hospital Management Information System.
·         Excellent public relations.

Physiotherapist (Locum)
The successful candidate will work with patients to identify and improve their movement and function.
He/she will also be expected to be an active member of the health care team in the Hospital.
Qualifications
·         Minimum Diploma in Physiotherapy from KMTC or any other recognized institution.
·         Must be registered and licensed by the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya
·         At least two years working experience in a busy health facility.
·         Working knowledge of a Hospital Management Information System.
·         Excellent Public Relations

Telephone Operator (Locum)

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing efficient and effective communication services within the Medical Centre.
Key Responsibilities
·         Effectively and efficiently handle all incoming and outgoing calls as per policy.
·         Test lines and speakers for functionality and record the status.
·         Timely respond to emergency calls and ensure correct information for all emergency calls is recorded and communicated / escalated to the relevant personnel immediately.
·         Report faulty extensions /equipment as and when required.
·         Maintain records of all calls.
Qualifications
·         Certificate in Telephone Operations
·         At least one year working experience in a similar position.
·         Excellent communication skills (Oral and written) in both English and Kiswahili.
·         Ability to organize and prioritize work, with sound decision making skills

Driver (Locum)
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving vehicles for the Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
·         Drive all hospital vehicles to transport passengers or goods to designated areas.
·         Pick up and transport employees according to requests, appointments or schedules.
·         Perform routine vehicle maintenance such as regulating tire pressure, adding oil, water, car wash as well taking the vehicle to the mechanics for servicing and/or repair.
·         Report all accidents or incidents as and when they occur.
Qualifications
·         Minimum KCSE certificate.
·         Possession of valid driving license classes BCE.
·         Minimum two years driving experience.
·         Valid certificate of good conduct.
·         Good knowledge of the Highway Code and other Kenya traffic laws applicable to commercial operations.
·         Ability to work at odd hours and / or travel at short notice.

Patient Service Officer (Locum)
The successful candidate will be responsible for financial transactions as well as working closely with Medical and Nursing staff to ensure smooth patient flow and reduce down on waiting time while ensuring continuous provision of effective service to enhance customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
·         CPA IV
·         Excellent Skills in MS Office suite.
·         Ability to relate to patients, through familiarity with medical terminology and triaging procedure.

·         Fluent in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili.

Cook (Locum)
The successful candidate will ensure that food production in the kitchen is of the highest quality with standardized recipes that meet and exceed client expectations to enable accomplishment of the overall departmental goals.
Responsibilities
·         Produce quality meals in a particular section of the kitchen that meet the quality and objectives of the department.
·         Prepare and serve meals as per the set standards and procedures.
·         Maintaining proper hygiene standards before, during and after meal preparations
·         Ensure the implementation and practice of the HACCP hygiene management system within the kitchen
·         Ensure participation in monthly stock takes of kitchen equipment
Qualifications
·         Diploma in food and beverage production
·         Food handlers Health certificate from a District Hospital

Steward (Locum)
The successful candidate will ensure clean, safe and infection free environment by sanitizing utensils, equipment, surfaces floors and windows.
Responsibilities
·         Clean cafeterias, kitchen, offices and hallways by sweeping, washing, mopping and dusting to maintain a clean, sanitary and tidy environment as directed by the department team leader/supervisor/manager
·         Collecting, and removal of garbage, Weighing and disposal of food waste and trash in the designated areas as per the cleaning and sanitation standards of the department
·         Disassemble, clean, sanitize and store patient trays including all dirty dishes from the wards, cafeteria and functions
·         Monitoring and ensuring that all chemical solution (i.e. precept) requirements are met, for infection control
Qualifications
·         Certificate in institutional management/ Food and beverage service techniques
·         Minimum 1 year working experience

Meal Server (Locum)
The successful candidate will be responsible for general service of meals to all clients and maintenance of a hygienic environment within the catering department.
Responsibilities
·         Ensure that correct food orders are taken from patients and clients.
·         Ensure prompt and efficient service to all clients.
·         Manage all menus and request of food orders by analyzing and summarizing orders prior to service.
·         Investigates and report complaints regarding food quality and service for appropriate action.
·         Ensure proper food safety processes and procedures are adhered to.
Qualifications

Patient Attendant (Locum)
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the clinical nurse with basic nursing procedures to offer support in ensuring personal hygiene and general comfort of the patients.
Key Result Areas
·         Clean and maintain patients’ environment.
·         Assist patients to feed.
·         Assist in following up meals with Catering department for patients who must feed in the Nursing Units.
·         Assist patients with activities of daily living by giving bedpans, urinals, assisting with movement to the bathroom, helping with showers

Laboratory Technologist
Overall Responsibility: Reporting to the Laboratory Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for preparing documentation, processing patient’s samples, ensuring timely dispatch of results and maintain records as per the AKHK laboratory policy.
Other Responsibilities:
·         Receive accession, process specimens and release patients results as per laboratory procedures.
·         Maintain relevant equipment in terms of routine maintenance, calibration and quality control.
·         Participate in proficiency testing and other quality assurance programs.
·         Create and maintain documents and records as required in the laboratory.
·         Select, bleed donors, and prepare blood and blood products for transfusion as per laboratory procedures.
·         Ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures including but not limited to those related to safety and infection control.
Requirements
·         Higher National Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution.
·         Excellent knowledge of laboratory operations and procedures.
·         Ability to write and review SOPs.
·         Excellent computer skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.
·         Minimum three years working experience in a busy medical laboratory.
·         Knowledge and experience in ISO 15189 Standard is desirable.
·         Possession of a Phlebotomy certificate will be an added advantage.
·         Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board with a current practice license is mandatory.
·         Experience of working in Histology and Cytology sections is a must and preference would be given to such candidates.

Administrative Assistant
Overall Responsibility: Reporting to the Head of Outreach the successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Head of Outreaches and the OHC team for delivery of efficient and quality services in line with the institutional guidelines
Other Responsibilities:
·         Handling office tasks, such as filing, and setting up for meetings.
·         Providing real-time scheduling support by booking appointments and preventing conflicts.
·         Making travel arrangements, such as booking flights, cars, and making hotel and restaurant reservations.
·         Preparing and distributing minutes and consequent follow up action items, generate reports, and create presentations.
·         Maintain records of pools and locums used in the Outreach Centre’s and ensure HR receives them for processing by the 15th of every month.
·         Maintain polite and professional communication via phone, e-mail, and mail.
Requirements
·         Bachelor’s Degree in Management from a recognized University.
·         2 years of experience in office administration
·         Excellent computer skills, including a high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
