Retention Officer

Reports to: Study Coordinator
Location: Kisumu
Duration: 1 Year Renewable Contract as per KEMRI Scheme of Service. The first 3 months is a probation period


Responsibilities
·         Oversee the trackers retention activities
·         Continuously Assess retention rates per participant per tracker and support as needed
·         Consult with management and take lead in the Multi-disciplinary team meeting
·         Keep track of the transport reimbursement log and oversee update as needed in liaison with reception
·         Provide timely reports and solutions to gaps.
·         Track and do summary report of all missed visits and tracing efforts
·         Confirm and address participant relocation
·         Engage with stakeholder i.e. School administration, parents, student and peers to foster retention of participants
·         Review and update retention SOP as needed
·         Review retention strategy in consultation with the team
·         Retention incentives procurement and distribution
·         Time to time community engagement, school retention club and health talk
·         Link with parents, participants and clinic
·         Work hand in hand with the CLO and lead clinic person in addressing any retention matters regarding participants
·         Develop training materials and Mentorship of study staff
·         Identifies gaps and issues that require attention and channels them appropriately.
·         Ensures privacy and confidentiality.
·         Performs other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the study coordinator
·         Works in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability and integrity
Qualifications
·         Diploma in nursing – Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN).
·         Must be registered with the Nursing officer’s council of Kenya.
·         Extensive experience working in Research
·         Experience and interest in working in an innovative and demanding environment.
·         Ability to multitask, problem solve, and work with others to resolve challenges.
·         Strong communication, training, leadership skills
·         Excellent organizational skills
Required Experience/Skills
·         Two years working experience as community tracker or related function
·         Work experience working in a clinical set up and Good documentation skills with high attention to detail
·         Commitment to integrity and high-quality performance
·         Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
·         Keen and attentive to detail
·         Ability to task-shift
·         Ability to work independently, team player, good communicator, respectful, flexible, enthusiastic, innovative and proactive
·         Articulate in both verbal and written communication in English and Swahili. Luo speakers have an added advantage.
·         Computer literacy
·         Counselling skills

Reports to: Community Liaison Officer
Location: Kisumu
Duration: 1 Year Renewable Contract as per KEMRI Scheme of Service. The first 3 months is a probation period
Responsibilities
·         Community engagement
·         Community sensitization and mobilization for the study.
·         Work with CORPS to map study area and recruit potential subjects
·         Hold regular meetings and communication with local leaders and Community Units
·         Network with stakeholders
·         Participate in accelerated mobilization (distributing flyers and posters and conducting a mobile campaign with a public address system to mobilize the community.

·         Liaise with community leaders, gatekeepers and the community members about the study in consultation with the CLO.
·         Community Advisory Board formulation and continuously liaising with the board
·         Participant recruitment activities
·         Conducting outreach activities and participant referral
·         Escorting participant’s home as needed
·         Counselling and informed consent process
·         Develop and review participant recruitment SOP and implement strategies
·         Participant referral to site
·         Participant retention activities
·         Obtaining and updating participant locator information
·         Report writing on recruitment and retention strategies and updating of the community diary
·         Develop and review participant retention SOP and implement strategies
·         Participate in health talks at the site and health facilities
·         Participant physical and phone tracing as needed.
·         Ability to hold discussions with teachers, parents and guardians regarding their respective children’s retention.
Qualifications
·         Diploma in Community health, Social Sciences, social work, sociology, psychological counselling or other related fields.
·         Experience in working in a busy clinical research set up with extensive hands-on experience working in with communities and other stakeholders.
·         Experience working in a busy reproductive health service provision/promotion organization or delivery of contraceptive services.
·         Good Clinical Practice training/Human Subjects Protection training is an added advantage

Laboratory Technologist Internship

Qualifications
Must possess a Diploma from a recognized Institution in any of the following fields; –
·         Medical Laboratory Technology 2 positions
·         Applied Biology 1 position
·         Must be registered with KMLTTB
Language: Excellent and proven written and verbal English and Kiswahili.
In addition, the applicants must:
·         Be a Kenyan youth below 30 years of age
·         Should have graduated and obtained the relevant final certificate
·         Provide a Certificate of good conduct
Personal Attributes
·         Should possess interpersonal and communication skills
·         Must be goal oriented, dynamic, passionate and self-starter
·         A person of integrity
·         Should possess strong analytical skills
·         Must be computer literate.
Please Note
·         Appointment is for a period of one (1) year non-renewable and is subject to availability of funds.
·         A stipend will be paid but successful candidates will cater for their own transport, accommodation and upkeep during this period.
·         Interns will be expected to take up a personal accident cover and medical Insurance cover
·         KEMRI/the project WILL NOT offer employment after the completion of internship.
