User Experience (UX/UI) Design

Responsibilities

·         Develop new user-facing features
·         Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
·         Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability
·         Understand product specifications and user psychology
·         Conduct concept and usability testing and gather feedback
·         Create personas through user research and data
·         Define the right interaction model and evaluate its success
·         Develop wireframes and prototypes around customer needs
·         Find creative ways to solve UX problems (e.g. usability, findability)
·         Communicate design ideas and prototypes to developers
·         Keep abreast of competitor products and industry trends

Qualifications

·         Proven experience as a UX Designer, UI Designer or similar role
·         Strong portfolio of design projects
·         Familiarity with interaction design and information architecture
·         Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
·         Basic understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS
·         Proficient understanding of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery, Ajax and Node js.
·         Good understanding of advanced JavaScript libraries and frameworks, such as AngularJS, KnockoutJS, NodeJS, ReactJS
·         Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
·         Basic knowledge of image authoring tools, to be able to crop, resize, or perform small adjustments on an image.
·         Familiarity with tools such as as Gimp or Photoshop is a plus.

A UI/UX designer is expected to deliver finished resources for the developer to incorporate into the app. However, quite often a front-end web developer needs to make some small adjustments. Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them. Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git / Mercurial / SVN. Good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that application will adhere to them.

Full Stack Developer

As a full stack developer, you’ll be building critical parts of our application and help us use software in service of our customers by making it as easy for them to apply and receive loans. Our stack is currently built with Ruby on Rails with a few Node based microservices. This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Responsibilities
·         Writing core code that is a pleasure for other engineers to read and understand.
·         Build reusable code and libraries for future use
·         Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability
·         Assure that all user input is validated before submitting to back-end
·         Collaborate with other team members and the senior software engineer

Qualifications
·         Strong understanding of Ruby on Rails and how it works.
·         Having shipped a Ruby on Rails application before.
·         2+ Years of Software Engineering experience.
·         Experience with PostGres, Heroku/AWS, Javascript (with or without frameworks).
·         Understanding of the following concepts: MVC, RESTful APIs, ORM.
·         Experience with testing frameworks and site monitoring tools.
