Kenya Ferry Services is a State Corporation, established under the Companies Act (CAP 486) of the Laws of Kenya and operating in the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works, mandated with the operation of ferries in the Country. The Company’s headquarters are set along the expansive shores of the beautiful and splendid Indian Ocean overlooking the magnificent view of the channel at Peleleza, Likoni, Mombasa.
To strengthen the management team, KFSL is seeking to engage a dynamic, highly driven and result oriented individual for the position of Chief Engineer
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Chief Engineer will be responsible for delivery of efficient and effective technical services to the Company.
Responsibilities
·         Develop, manage and monitor the engineering and maintenance department budget;
·         Approve the departmental training programs for the development of technical staff; and
·         Plan and authorize engineering department procurement needs and initiate maintenance capital projects.
·         Oversee performance management in the department
·         Prepare and submit all monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the department
·         Prepare a draft board management papers for approval
·         Participate in the development and review of the Institution’s strategic plan
·         Participate in various committees in the Institution
·         Ensure that best engineering standards and practices are in place;
·         Develop and maintain adequate procedures to maintain best practice standards within acceptable cost limits;
·         Advice management on technical matters and provide leadership in formulation of equipment replacement programmes;
·         Maintain adequate and up to date records of drawings, plans and alterations for projects undertaken;
·         Direct and oversee the specialized installation of parts, plants and equipment;
·         Ensure statutory regulations and insurance requirements are followed, for the safe condition of ferries, plants, gear and equipment;
Qualifications
·         Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field from a recognized university;
·         Master’s degree in relevant field from a recognized university will be an added advantage;
·         Marine Engineering Class 1 certificate will be an added advantage;
·         A member of the Engineers Board of Kenya;
·         Minimum of twelve (12) years’ relevant experience with at least three (3) years in a Senior Management position, and
·         Experience in the marine transport industry/ or marine operations management will be an added advantage,
·         Shortlisted candidates will be required to satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and should submit among other documents; Certificate of Good Conduct from the Director of Criminal Investigations, Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board, Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority, Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau.

Coxswain Internship

KFSL is seeking to offer opportunities to enthusiastic, focused, organized and result oriented individuals for the Internship program.

Qualifications
·         Must possess a Diploma in Nautical Science or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution;
·         Bachelors in Nautical Science or equivalent from a recognized university will be an added advantage;
·         Possession of a Certificate of Competency as Coxswain shall be an added advantage;
·         Possession of STCW will be an added advantage;
·         Must be a Kenyan citizen aged 34 years and below; and
·         Must have graduated from institutions of higher learning in the last (2) years.
