Job Purpose
Reporting
to the Project Director KNBS, the Project Manager will be responsible for all
aspects of project administration and financial management.
Responsibilities
·
Supporting senior staff to monitor
project activities against the proposed work plan, and monitoring achievements
against planned milestones and deliverables;
·
Managing finances and accounting for
the project funds in accordance with the financial guidelines issued by the
Government of Kenya and the Delegation of the European Union;
·
Managing information related to the
project and disseminating it to the project stakeholders;
·
Liaising with the project partners
and the funding agency to monitor project activities and expenditures;
·
Collating information from partners,
organising and finalising project reports;
·
Working with the management of KIPPRA
to report on project activities and expenditure in order to provide combined
reporting through the KNBS processes and procedures;
·
Providing support for the meetings
and administration of the KNIPFN Policy Advisory Committee;
·
Organising meetings of the Project
Management Committee (PMC) on behalf of the Project Director to ensure that the
PMC decisions on training opportunities, attendance of meetings and
consultancies are implemented promptly and effectively;
·
Writing and disseminating the minutes
of meetings of the PMC;
·
Coordinating public events related to
the KNIPFN with support from the Senior Policy Officer, the Communications
Officer and the Project Assistant;
·
Any other duties as may be assigned
by the Project Director KNBS.
Qualifications
·
A Masters Degree in Economics,
Statistics, Project Management or equivalent qualifications from a recognised
institution;
·
proven experience in project
management involving several organisations in a partnership;
·
Familiarity with food and nutrition
statistics will be an added advantage;
·
At least ten (10) years’ experience
in the management of statistical projects within a Government institution or an
NGO;
·
A working knowledge and experience in
financial management with respect to planning and budgeting;
·
Familiarity with financial and
procurement guidelines issued by the Government of Kenya and the European Union
Delegation;
·
Analytical and Human Resource
Management skills;
·
Excellent organisational skills including
a methodical and rigorous approach and the ability to work autonomously and
also in a team;
·
An ability to work in a complex
inter-sectoral environment and create networks;
·
A high degree of familiarity with
Microsoft Office programmes;
·
Excellent communication skills;
·
An ability to work in a stressful
environment and meet strict deadlines;
·
Must meet the requirements of chapter
six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
Senior Data Analyst

Job Purpose
Reporting
to Project Manager/Director, the job holder will provide expert technical
advice, training and guidance to the staff working within the project Analysis
Unit.
Responsibilities
·
Working with Statisticians in KNBS
and the project Data Manager to obtain data sets of relevance to nutrition from
Ministries, International agencies and Civil society organisations to catalogue
and archive the files;
·
Undertaking specialised analysis of
data which contributes to answering the questions posed by the Policy Advisory
Committee;
·
Supporting the production of summary
statistics by regions and Counties that could be contributed to data dashboards
or developed by the project and placed on the website of KNBS;
·
Participating in meetings of the
KNIPFN Policy Advisory Committee to provide support and guidance on the
information and data required for analysis are available to assist in analysis
of the questions raised;
·
Working with staff of the KNIPFN to
write reports, policy briefs, papers and other documents with the support of
the project Communications Officer;
·
Liaising with staff of the Global
Support Facility for the NIPN initiative to identify suitable training courses
for staff and specialist advisors or specialist training materials to support
the analytical processes of the project;
·
Undertaking special tasks assigned by
the Project Director, related to the KNIPFN project;
·
Attending meetings of the KNIPFN
Project Management Committee as a representative of the KNIPFN Analysis unit;
·
Attending the annual international
technical meeting of NIPNs organised by the GSF;
·
Any other duties as may be assigned
by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
·
A Master Degree in Statistics,
Mathematics, Economics, Econometrics or equivalent qualifications from a
recognised institution;
·
At least ten (10) years’ experience
in the management, analysis and reporting of biomedical data including human
nutrition statistics;
·
Experience in managing, organising,
creating, analysing and archiving data sets;
·
Experience of analysing panel data
from surveillance systems or multiple data sets of cross-sectional surveys;
·
Proven experience in using STATA
statistical software;
·
Experience of using R and ARC-GIS
software is an added advantage;
·
Proven ability to write technical
reports, documents or papers in English;
·
Must meet the requirements of Chapter
six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
Data Manager

Job Purpose
Reporting
to the Project Director while working under the guidance of the Senior Analyst
and the KNBS Data Manager, the job holder will develop and manage an
archive of data sets concerned with nutrition or factors that contribute to
good nutrition or cause malnutrition, and which supports efforts to create a
national data archive.
Responsibilities
·
Summarising the data sets available
in a standard format and maintaining records of data found and provided;
·
Formulating and implementing
efficient and secure procedures for data handling and data sharing;
·
Creating and enforcing policies for
ensuring data security to prevent security breaches and data loss with the
assistance of the KNBS IT unit;
·
Translating analysing requests into a
list of required datasets and a schedule for their acquisition, processing,
describing and cataloguing;
·
Overseeing rules and procedures for
data sharing;
·
Monitoring the flow of datasets in
both the data cleaning and analysis teams, ensuring there are no bottlenecks in
the distribution and sharing of data;
·
Overseeing the implementation, daily
operations and maintenance of the repository of datasets;
·
Undertaking special tasks assigned by
the Project Director related to the KNIPFN project;
·
Undertaking any other duties as may
be assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
·
Bachelors Degree in Statistics,
Mathematics, Computing, Information Technology or equivalent qualifications
from a recognised institution;
·
Ten (10) years’ working experience in
data management;
·
Experience in using computer
softwares to handle data, ideally on networked computers running the Windows
Operating System, and experience in use of database software such as Access and
Excel;
·
Experience in the use of statistical
softwares such as STATA or R and microdata cataloguing tools, Nesstar or NADA
will be an added advantage.
Public Health Nutritionist

Job Purpose
Reporting
to the Project Director in KNBS and working closely with the Senior Analyst in
KNBS, the Senior Policy Advisor in KIPPRA, and also with sector
specialists, the job holder will undertake systematic reviews of existing
information derived from reports, evaluations and research papers to provide
advice to the Policy Advisory Committee of the National Information Platform
for Nutrition initiative.
Responsibilities
·
Working with a team in the Kenya
National Bureau of Statistics to collect national grey literature consisting of
policy documents, project reports, evaluations and studies, and international
published literature that help understand the relationship between policies,
programmes and interventions in sectors that may contribute to better
nutritional outcomes for the population;
·
Undertaking systematic reviews of the
literature on efforts in all sectors to improve human nutrition; (the sectors
may include health, agriculture, food security; water and sanitation, social
protection, and education);
·
Developing relationships with staff
of United Nations agencies, NGOs, and universities in the fields of nutrition,
agriculture, social protection, WASH and education to receive the latest
reports and relevant documents, to develop a network of key informants;
·
methodically searching databases such
as PubMed, PubAg, AGRICOLA and AGRIS for papers and reports of relevance to the
topic under review;
·
Creating searchable electronic
archive of indexed reports and documents with support of the Data Manager of
KNBS;
·
Maintaining a library of policy
documents, reports and papers;
·
Writing reviews about specific issues
derived from review of the national and international literature, and
contributing to the development of policies and programmes for nutrition;
·
Preparing presentations on the
information required by the Policy Advisory Committee;
·
Undertaking any other official
assignment as instructed by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
·
Bachelors Degree in Public Health
Nutrition or Public Health with a specialisation in Human Nutrition or
equivalent qualifications from a recognised institution;
·
Ten (10) years’ working experience as
a public Health Nutritionist, Nutrition Researcher or Senior Nutrition Advisor;
·
Proven experience in reviewing,
analysing and summarising grey and published literature;
·
Proven ability in writing technical
reports, documents or papers;
·
Skills in preparing presentations
using Microsoft Office software;
·
An ability to write reports in
English.

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Data An
Responsibilities
·
Collecting, aggregating and merging
data sets for multisectoral analysis;
·
Assessing the distribution of
variables for application of the most appropriate statistical;
·
Analysing data using statistical
software such as STATA or R by applying the most appropriate and robust
statistical methods and sampling weights;
·
Storing and cataloguing the syntax
files, the output files and any history file of analysis to create a record of
the analysis done;
·
Creating new data sets of summary
statistics for presentation in data dashboards;
·
Assisting technical officers/Advisors
to interpret the output of statistical analysis;
·
Applying best practices in data
processing, management and analysis.
Qualifications
·
Bachelors Degree in Statistics,
Mathematics or equivalent qualifications from a recognised institution;
·
Five (5) years’ working experience in
organising and analysing large data sets, (ideally nutritional/biomedical or
agricultural in origin, using statistical software.
·
Experience in using Stata statistical
software;
·
Experience in STATA and R statistical
software;
·
Ability to produce reports will be an
