Internship

Duration: 3 Months
The Kenya School of Law is a public legal education provider responsible for the provision of professional legal training as an agent of the Government. The School is run under the auspices of the Kenya School of Law Act No. 26 of 2012 of the Laws of Kenya.
Trainees graduating from training institutions join the labour market with academic and theoretical approaches to work and hence require practical exposure in a real work environment.
The School has put in place an internship/attachment programme as part of on the job training for purpose of moulding interns/attaches to become responsible citizens who will contribute effectively to the socio-economic development of the country as well as develop their ability to successfully take up employment in various sectors.
The successful candidates shall be selected from applicants who possess the following qualifications:

Requirements

·         Application Letter;
·         A Degree/Diploma Certificate in any of the following Social Sciences from a recognized University or College:
1.  Law
2.  Paralegal Studies
3.  Human Resource Management,
4.  Finance / Accounts,
5.  Supply Chain Management,
6.  ICT
7.  Library and Information Science
8.  Records Management
9.  Hospitality Services
·         Recommendation letter from the Institution;
·         Copies of academic transcripts;
·         Copy of National Identification card;
·         Personal accident insurance to cover for personal risks lasting for at least three (3) months;
·         Medical insurance cover by the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) or any other reputable medical insurance firm; and
·         A copy of PIN certificate.

Accountant

In order to effectively meet these expanded functions, the School wishes to recruit committed, dynamic and result oriented persons who will join the existing strong team of staff to help it realize its vision of being “A preferred centre of excellence in legal education and training in the Eastern Africa region and beyond”.
We are looking for independent, visionary, strategic thinkers who are customer oriented, and would effectively participate in initiating organizational transformation. Specifically, we seek to recruit: –
Overall purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Finance Manager the incumbent will be responsible for effective financial management.

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail-
·         Co-ordination of cash office operations by daily checking of the petty cash book postings in the accounting system for accurateness;
·         Preparing and submitting financial statements and reports to provide regular updates of the institution’s financial position;
·         Ensuring compliance with Income Tax Act, VAT Act and that all taxes are timely paid;
·         Reviewing of postings to the general ledger for completeness, accuracy and conformity to IPSAS AND GAAPS;
·         Reviewing of journal entries specifically salaries, Deferred income and Depreciation to ensure accurate amounts have been inputted;
·         Managing and controlling accounts payables by verification of payments to suppliers and contracted professionals to ensure their ledgers are up to date;
·         Ensuring accurate posting of supplier’s invoices and payment vouchers in the accounting system by daily reconfirming the postings for ease of General Ledger reconciliation;
·         Ensuring bank reconciliations are done by 10th of the following month to enable in depth review and resolution of reconciling items;
·         Maintaining of ledger accounts by daily posting of related transactions that will assist in preparation of final accounts;
·         Checking accuracy of transactions including payments and receipts to ensure financial prudence;
·         Ensuring timely responses to both internal and external audit queries so as to get a good audit report;
·         Maintaining and updating fixed assets register to reflect the correct position for informed management;
·         Ensuring timely payroll statutory returns to relevant authorities;
·         Examination of payment vouchers against budgetary allocation;

·         Preparing of cash flow forecast;
·         Preparing and submitting statutory deductions so as to avoid penalties from non-remittance and late remittance of the same to comply with statutory obligation;
·         Ensuring safe custody of all Accountable Documents through lockable safes to avoid fraud through manipulation of old records;
·         Preparing monthly payroll journals and ensuring they are filed and captured in the accounting system; and
·         Ensuring transactions are properly recorded and accurately entered into the computerized accounting system.

Requirements

The successful candidate will: –
·         Hold a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option) degree or equivalent from a recognised university.
·         Possession of CPA (K), or equivalent will be a definite advantage;
·         Have a minimum of four (4) years’ work experience in a busy accounting environment.

Internal Auditor (Systems)

Overall purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Internal Auditor the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the audit function in the audit of systems including computerized systems and in reviewing adherence to management policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail-
·         Preparing audit plans for systems and ICT audit reviews to ensure all auditable areas are covered;
·         Performing detailed evaluation of internal control and audit reviews of computer information systems and infrastructure;
·         Participate in Audit assignments which will include risk based ICT audits, plus tasks assigned to other areas;
·         Providing recommendations to improve internal control by ensuring information security controls;
·         Providing policy/system recommendations at development stage to ensure adequate coverage of sub policies/integration of security controls in system;
·         Managing follow up reviews to ensure implementation of recommendations by the Board Audit and Risk Committee, Internal and External auditors;
·         Monitoring the implementation and operation of defined controls and recommendations on an ongoing basis;
·         Reviewing data and network security such as access controls, systems back-ups and segregation of duties;
·         Reviewing documentation/procedures such as Service level agreements, IT contracts, DRP, programs and ICT policy; and
·         Ensuring quality assurance to all work delivered, including working papers, both meet the standards required as well as support the audit findings, recommendations and conclusions.

Requirements

The successful candidate will: –
·         Possess a Bachelors of Commerce/Computer science or relevant business related degree from a recognized university.
·         CPA II
·         CISA
·         Have at least four (4) years working experience of which at least 2 years should be in performing Information Systems Audits.
·         Detailed knowledge of information systems governance, information security principles and practices.
·         Outstanding analytical skills.
·         Demonstrate understanding of the audit process, controls and procedures.
·         Excellent communication and report writing skills.

Accounts Assistant

Job Summary
To ensure proper recording of all receivables and cash creditors transactions, prompt banking of receipts and proper maintenance of cashbook and receivables subsidiary ledger.

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail-
·         Receiving monies from internal and external customers is acknowledged and accounted for by issuance of and official receipt;
·         Ensuring safe custody of all Cash, Cheque and Cash equivalent through instant banking and lockable safe so as to safeguard school revenue;
·         Ensuring submission of monthly Reports by generating accounts receivables and expenditure analysis to facilitate decision making;
·         Preparing payment vouchers and schedules to ensure that suppliers and service providers are paid and statutory deductions are executed accordingly;
·         Updating the vote book to ensure payments are within budget;
·         Managing the imprest register to ensure that there is cash flow for smooth daily operations;
·         Ensuring safe custody of all accountable documents through lockable safes to avoid fraud through manipulation of old records;
·         Liaising between the School and its official bankers through transacting on behalf of the school to limit access to the Institution’s accounts;
·         Preparing and submitting statutory deductions so as to avoid penalties from non-remittance and late remittance of the same and comply with statutory obligation; and
·         Entering data in the accounting system.

Requirements

The successful candidate will: –
·         Be a holder of a CPA Part II or Degree in Accounting, or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
·         Have a minimum of 2 years relevant working experience.
