Senior Assistant Sales & Marketing Officer
REF SASMO -13-2018
Reports to: Assistant Sales and Marketing Manager

Responsibilities

·         Facilitates Senior Sales and Marketing Officers and sales and marketing officers requests for sales materials, posters, fliers and other requests within 24 hours
·         Collect and collate market intelligence data
·         Participate in coordination and management of exhibitions
·         Develop marketing communication concepts
·         Analyse periodic target achievement for sales regions and prepare reports
·         Monitor departmental expenditure on a quarterly basis
·         Analyse and prepare reports on title sales performance and KLB’s share of titles in the orange book for timely interventions.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration (Business/ Business Management) Social Sciences or equivalent qualifications.
·         Higher National Diploma or Diploma in marketing or a relevant field from a recognized institution.
·         Minimum two (2) years of relevant work experience.

Senior Assistant Designer (Fine Art Illustrator)

Responsibilities

·         Develop book cover/layout designs to print ready artworks;
·         Conceptualise, plan and execute all forms of illustrations assignments for internal clientele;
·         Generate fine art illustrations;
·         Prepare digital content files from print ready files;
·         Carry out regular back up of all design projects.
·         Undertake photography assignments; and
·         Effect textual corrections on fine art assignments as directed by project managers/editors.

Qualifications

·         A Bachelors Degree in Art and Design/FineArts or Graphic Design Option.
·         Higher National Diploma or Diploma in Art and Design/Fine Art or a relevant field from a recognised body.

Senior Assistant Composing Officer

Reports to: Composing Officer

Responsibilities

·         Ensure that proofs conform to the original manuscripts;
·         Ascertain that the job is consistently proofread, copy marked and properly copy-fitted;
·         Check head levels and approximate placement of artworks;
·         Notify management of any unusual production requirements, to ensure proper quality control checks;
·         Prepare and mark all typographical layouts of all manuscripts; and
·         Prepare a final dummy for planning/estimating as a guide for mass production.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor of Printing Technology or Bachelor of Philosophy in Printing.
·         Higher National Diploma or Diploma in Printing Technology or a relevant field from a recognised institution.
·         Minimum two (2) years of relevant work experience.

Editor (English, E-Books)

Reports to: Senior Editor

Responsibilities

·         Evaluate unsolicited manuscripts to determine whether they satisfy the Bureau’s publishing requirements;
·         Undertake substantive copy editing of manuscripts to meet set standards
·         Co-ordinate activities of typesetters, designers and illustrators and other suppliers to meet agreed upon production schedules;
·         Develop and design books and materials to create attractive products;
·         Prepare project proposals for presentation to management for decision making;
·         Assess manuscripts and prepare manuscript assessment reports;
·         Co-ordinate the copyediting process of manuscripts through the four stages; First proofs, Second proofs, Third proofs and Final proofs;
·         Organize and facilitate editorial workshops;

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Publishing or Education (English and Literature) or Communication, Information Sciences (Publishing).
·         Higher National Diploma or Diploma in Journalism or a relevant field from a recognized body.
·         Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience.

Senior Editor (Chemistry, Biology)

Reports to: Assistant Publishing Manager

Responsibilities

·         Plan and implement sound publication plans and product development initiatives;
·         Prepare publishing proposals, manuscripts assessment and acquisition reports for decision making;
·         Acquire, develop and publish books as per set annual targets after examining market trends and demographics to establish the needs of the audience;
·         Co-ordinate the acquisition and assessment of unsolicited and Solicited manuscripts to meet market needs;
·         Edit manuscripts/typescripts for production of print ready electronic files;
·         Co-ordinate and monitor writing workshops and author’s activities for development of titles;
·         Interpret curriculum and syllabi, in area of specialisation;

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Publishing or Education (Chemistry and Biology Combination) or Communication, Information Sciences (Publishing).
·         Higher National Diploma or Diploma in Journalism or a relevant field from a recognized body.

Senior Designer

Reports to: Assistant Publishing Manager

Responsibilities

·         Conceptualise, plan and execute all forms of graphic design assignments;
·         Develop book cover/layout designs to print ready artworks;
·         Effect textual corrections of graphic design assignments as directed by project managers/editors;
·         Generate line illustrations;
·         Develop internal promotional graphic design projects (banners, posters, flyers, brochures, etc.);
·         Digitize text and illustrations from hard copy files;
·         Develop e-content /digital content files from print ready book files for uploading to appropriate e-platforms.
·         Prepare digital content files from print ready book files;
·         Co-ordinate photography assignments as per project briefs; and
·         Execute regular back up of all design assignments.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Design/Fine Art or Graphic Design Option.
·         Masters of Business Administration or a relevant field is an added advantage.

Senior Legal Officer

Reports to: Assistant Legal Services Manager

Responsibilities

·         Provide legal opinion and updates to Management on legal issues affecting the Bureau;
·         Participate in legal audit to ensure compliance with statutory requirements;
·         Undertake legal research on the tasks assigned under the legal section;
·         Compilation of litigation reports, debt collection reports and any other reports.
·         Prepare documents for instituting and defending of legal suits in liaison with external advocates;
·         Prepare legal drafts, leases, formal agreements and other legal instruments between the Bureau and third parties;
·         Responsible for ensuring that the company’s intellectual property is protected and up to date.
·         Manage contracts to ensure that KLB’s interests are properly safeguarded.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Law (L.L.B.) or its equivalent
·         Masters of Business Administration or a relevant field.
·         Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience with at least three (3) years at senior management/leadership position.
·         Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
·         Post Graduate Diploma in law.
·         Knowledge of the Constitution of Kenya.
·         Member of Law Society of Kenya (L.S.K.) in good standing.
·         Valid Practicing Certificate.

Assistant Finance Manager

Reports to: Finance Manager

Responsibilities

·         Ensure proper and accurate reporting of the financial operations.
·         To ensure proper accounting records are maintained.
·         Ensure proper planning and utilization of KLB resources.
·         Co-ordinate the preparation and presentation of monthly management accounts/reports to guide in internal decision making;
·         Implement and maintain the Bureau’s financial management system;
·         Design, establish and maintain effective internal control system;
·         Prepare periodic reports on compliance with the approved budgets for budgetary control;
·         Analyse expenditure variance and prepare monthly reports for decision making;
·         Analyse monthly Bank reconciliation reports and co-ordinate the implementation of the reconciling items;

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or relevant field.
·         Master’s Degree in Business Administration or a relevant field.
·         Minimum eight (8) years of relevant work experience with at least four (4) years at senior management/ leadership position.
·         Holder of Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountant – ACCA- UK)
·         Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and in good standing,
·         Certified Investment and Financial Analyst (CIFA – K) or Certified Financial Analyst (CFA – UK) will be an added advantage.
·         Member of the Institute of Certified Investment and Financial Analysts of Kenya (CIFA) will be an added advantage
·         Knowledge of Public Finance Act and International Financial Reporting Standards
