Tutor

Beacon of Hope (BOH) is a faith based Non-Governmental Organization with a mission of catalyzing sustainable transformation by uplifting the spiritual, physical, economic and social well-being of individuals, families and communities.
Beacon Vocational training College goal is to develop “Value centered holistic, quality education and training that produces transformed, skilled, competent, and competitive individuals who are agents of change in society”. 
Trainees receive market driven technical skills around which they can build enterprises. It is registered with the Ministry of Education; it is a KNEC and NITA examination centre. The College focuses on Technical courses in Building and construction, electrical installation / solar technology, Fashion design and garment making technology, information communication technology and Catering and accommodation.
VACANCY – TUTORS FOR BEACON VOCATIONAL TRAINING COLLEGE
Plans are under way to expand the current College facility and thus vacancies have arisen for Tutors to be part of a lively and caring community of the Beacon Vocational Training College, enriching the lives of all students and equipping them with the qualifications and skills to meet the demands of a changing world with confidence and assurance.
Tutors for the following courses
·         Building and construction,
·         Electrical installation / solar technology,
·         Fashion design and garment making technology,
·         Information communication technology and
·         Catering and accommodation.
·         Maths tutor

Requirements

·         The successful candidate will have a minimum of Diploma / Higher Diploma/ Degree in relevant field. Diploma in Technical Education from KTTC,
·         At least 2 years working experience in a technical College.
·         The candidate will have leadership skills, must possess good communication (spoken and written) and organizational skills.
·         Good customer care serviceand the ability to work under pressure.
·         He/she must be proficient in Ms Office packages and a mature person of high level integrity.


Social Worker
(Orphans and Sponsorship program)
This role exists to ensure that Beacon of Hope facilitates and promotes the welfare and well-being of vulnerable Households (caregivers & OVC) by alleviating suffering of families infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.
The social worker spends 60 % of their time in the field working with Community Health Volunteers and 40% of their time networking and completing required reports and documentation; and ensuring that the BOH service standards are maintained at the highest level and that program objectives are met.
Scope of work
Support, supervise and manage Children program under SEEO department
Attain the following key objectives
·         To ensure 70% of the Households engage in economic strengthening activities.
·         To prioritize OVC education and reduce barriers  to OVC acquiring education
·         To accurately manage data as evidence of services provided.
·         Constant communication with the management and partners on the progress of the children

Responsibilities

Education
·         Create profiles for needy and vulnerable HHs
·         Identify education priority needs from the profiles created.
·         Train CHV’s on the scholarship application process and complete the documentation for the applications and follow up and provide feedback as appropriate

·         Participate with other Social workers in verifying and compiling OVC applications that meet criteria.
·         Participate in the education community committee meetings.
·         Raise requisitions on the applications that have been approved by the education committee.
·         Ensure all sponsored OVC have their school fees paid every year
·         Review the OVC school report forms to ensure they attend school regularly and that academic performance is acceptable.
·         Work with other stakeholders in referring for bursaries for bright students
·         Conduct regular school visits and follow up on OVC performance and conduct
·         Organize life skills sessions for all OVC under sponsorship
Communication
·         Maintain constant communication with the management
·         Attend and plan for monthly meetings
Data management  
·         Assist in household vulnerability assessment exercise as need arises and conduct periodic reviews of the reports provided by CHV’s. Accuracy of the source data is the responsibility of the Social worker
·         Verify the data collected.
·         Verify data and sign off form 1As for data entry.
·         Confirm reports after data entry and extract a report on the needs identified for follow up and resolution
·         Compile success stories.
·         Populating the OVC files and updating them termly
·         Compile monthly and quarterly reports of the program
Others
·         Participate in the staff morning devotions
·         Participate in the planning and budgeting processes for the department.
·         Facilitate in proposal writing and soliciting for funds
·         Ensure the caregivers under sponsorship engage in IGA and SILC activities

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Social Sciences or any other related field. .

·         Able to work independently and effectively under pressure.

·         Strong networking skills.
·         Ability to use computers.
·         At least three (3) years’ experience in working in informal settlements.
