Internship for a Technician Job Advertisement
Olivado EPZ Limited is an agribusiness company involved in the processing of avocado oil and also export of fresh avocados from contracted farmers.
We are looking for a qualified technician who will be engaged on a contract basis.
The ideal candidates should meet the following qualifications and be ready for the specified tasks.
Qualification Requirements
·         Minimum Diploma in Agriculture engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
·         At least 1 year working experience in plant maintenance.
·         Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, BRC, FSSC, ISO 22000-2005, GG and other food management systems.
·         Strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
·         Ability to work with minimal supervision on daily tasks, keen and articulate on details.
·         Experience in avocado packaging will be an added advantage.
Key Tasks
·         In charge of supervising the routine and corrective maintenance of the factory / pack house machines and entire production machines.
·         Advise other staff on maintenance requirements.
·         Trains newly recruited staff and conduct refresher trainings for workers involved in the factory maintenance works and consequently maintains training attendance records.
·         Reports any anomaly in the factory (Civil, mechanical/ electrical) to the Packhouse manager.
·         Ensure that effective correction and corrective action arising due to non-compliances observed in the maintenance works are conducted.
·         Maintenance of corrective action and preventive maintenance records for all engineering works.
·         Supervision of engineering contractors while on site.
·         Other duties assigned by the Packhouse manager.


We are looking for a qualified Quality Control Assistant who will be engaged on a contract basis.
The ideal candidates should meet the following qualifications and be ready for the specified tasks.
Qualification Requirements
·         A Diploma / Degree in Agriculture / Horticulture / Food Science or related discipline.
·         At least 1 year working experience in quality management in a food industry.
·         Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, BRC, FSSC, ISO 22000-2005, GG and other food management systems.
·         Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
·         Ability to work with minimal supervision on daily tasks, keen and articulate on details.
·         Experience in avocado packaging will be an added advantage.
Key Tasks
·         Checking the efficiency of the mass size sorting machine and the weight of the packed cartons.
·         Ensuring that the daily intake, rejects and waste register is completed.
·         Conduct sampling as per protocol for avocado shipping sample testing.
·         Complete the shipping sample book.
·         Randomly verify carton weights and complete the packing random weight check form.
·         Verify the output from the random mass size sorters and complete Mass size sorter form.
·         Regularly determine the plant operating capacity.


We are looking for a qualified Fruit Reception Attendantwho will be engaged on a contract basis.
The ideal candidates should meet the following qualifications and be ready for the specified tasks.
Qualification Requirements

Key Tasks
·         To ensure that all personnel working in the avocado receiving area and those feeding packing lines know their responsibility and are fully trained.
·         To oversee the smooth running and repairs of all machinery in the fruit receiving area of the Packhouse.
·         To participate in quality control including raw material assessment and sampling.
·         To ensure that all fruits received have attained the clear to pick time and that they are mature as per quality specification.
·         To train workers involved in produce reception on hygiene requirements and raw material reception and handling procedures.
·         To complete Transport vehicle inspection and maintenance checklist.
·         Maintenance of pest control record/ book.
·         Ensuring that hygiene instructions and procedures are implemented at the reception area.
·         Inspection of weighing balances and trolleys before use to ascertain that they are in good working order.
·         Weighing of received fruits from each consignment and preparation of good received note.
·         Maintenance of clean working environment by ensuring all waste is appropriately disposed in good time.
·         Other duties allocated by the pack house manager.


We are looking for a qualified Grading / Packing Assistant who will be engaged on a contract basis.
The ideal candidates should meet the following qualifications and be ready for the specified tasks.
Qualification Requirements
·         Minimum Diploma in Agriculture / Horticulture / Food Science or related discipline.
·         At least 1 year working experience in quality management in a food industry.

Key Tasks
·         Visual Inspection of fruits before placing them in boxes to ensure they are of sound quality.
·         To maintain a record of packing date, number of boxes and fruit counts packed.
·         To record supplier traceability number (batch codes) and number of boxes per each code.
·         To ensure workers wash and dry their hands before commencing duty.
·         Checking establishments and workplaces to ensure that the place is safe and is not hazardous for the workers and for ensuring production of safe food.
·         Inspects the buildings and such to ensure that the place is free from pest or dirt.
·         Inform the workers about the condition and how to maintain cleanliness in the area.
·         Ensuring correctness of stock inventory for materials within the store.
·         Supervising reception and issuing of all stored materials.
·         Ensuring Occupational Health and Safety measures are functional and adhered to at the stores.
·         To ensure that only quality fruits are allowed to proceed for packing process.
·         Visual inspection of fruits moving on a conveyor belt.
·         To sort all out of specification fruits as per sorting procedure.
·         To ensure that the sorting line is well maintained.


We are looking for a qualified Laboratory Assistant to fill for a vacant position.
The ideal candidates should meet the following qualifications and be ready for the specified tasks.
Qualification Requirements
·         Possess a minimum of a certificate in food science or any science related course.
·         At least 1 year working experience in quality in the food industry.
·         Have knowledge of HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000-2005 and other food management systems.
·         Strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
·         Ability to work with minimal supervision on daily tasks, Keen and articulate on details.
·         Experience in oil processing will be an added advantage.
Key Tasks
·         Sample and analyse all raw materials & advice accordingly.
·         Inspect the finished product before transferred to finished product room, packed, labelled and coded.
·         Conduct a pre-operative inspection prior to start of activities in the production area.
1) Cleanliness of the area, equipment and personnel.
2) Availability of hygiene consumables [ soap/sanitizers, water etc]
·         Machine and equipment calibration [temperatures/ weights].
·         Ensure all staff adheres to hygiene code during processing and handling of final products e.g. hand washing, mouth masks etc.
·         Ensure cold rooms/cool stores temperature are monitored 3 times daily and recorded.
·         Randomly check the arrangement of products inside the cold rooms/cool stores to ensure it can facilitate air circulation and ensure good housekeeping.
·         Assist in documentation, especially in traceability records
·         Active participation in food safety system and actively participate in Audits.
·         Participate in sensory evaluation of the products
·         Carry out systematic checks, line quality analysis of the products Organoleptic.
·         Any other duty as may be allocated by your supervisor from time to time.


We are looking for a qualified Coldroom / Palletizing Assistant who will be engaged on a contract basis.
The ideal candidates should meet the following qualifications and be ready for the specified tasks.
Qualification Requirements
·         A minimum of diploma in a food related discipline
·         At least one years’ experience in the packing and export of avocado fruits.
·         Training in hygiene, food safety and quality management systems.
·         Strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
·         Ability to work with minimal supervision on daily tasks, keen and articulate on details.
·         A certificate in a discipline related to food technology will be an added advantage.
Key Tasks
·         Inspect the cold room for its general state of hygiene.
·         Inspect glass and fluorescent light to confirm their sound status.
·         Ensure used cleaning and sanitizing chemicals used are compatible with food safety requirements.
·         Monitor temperature measuring equipment (thermometer) and ensure that the readings are within the allowable range as per monitoring procedure and ensure proper records are maintained.
·         Train workers involved in cold room storage operation on all the requirements of the Olivado Fresh Internal Management System and food safety and Quality requirements.
·         Ensure cartons are stacked neatly, labels are attached, and strapping carried out as per the requirement.
·         Ensure quantity packed is as per the instruction of the Packhouse Management.
·         Other duties allocated by the Packhouse Manager or the food safety team.


We are looking for a qualified Packhouse Administrative Assistant who will be engaged on a contract basis.
The ideal candidates should meet the following qualifications and be ready for the specified tasks.
Qualification Requirements
·         Diploma or above qualification in a discipline related to office administration and or procurement.
·         Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
·         Excellent organizational and leadership skills
·         Familiarity with office management procedures and basic accounting principles
·         Excellent knowledge of computer packaging
·         Qualifications in secretarial studies will be an advantage
Key Tasks
·         Coordinate office activities and operations to ensure efficiency and compliance to company policies.
·         Supervise staff and divide responsibilities to ensure optimal performance.
·         Manage agendas/travel arrangements/appointments etc. for staff, visitors and contractors.
·         Manage phone calls and correspondence (e-mail, letters, packages etc.)
·         Support budgeting and bookkeeping procedures.
·         Create and update workers records and databases.
·         Track stocks of supplies and place orders when necessary.
·         Submit timely reports and prepare presentations/proposals as assigned.
·         Keep an update register of Packhouse workers.
·         Liaise with Olivado EPZ accounts department to ensure all financial related matters including workers payments and payment to suppliers is completed on schedule.
