The Rural Electrification Authority, a State Corporation established under the Energy Act No. 12 of 2006, is mandated to enhance provision of electricity in the rural areas of Kenya. It is also the lead agency in the development and promotion of renewable energy in Kenya.
Through its mandate, the Authority seeks to improve the socio-economic well-being of Kenyans living in rural areas. Since commencing operations in the 2008/09 financial year, the Authority has endeavoured to realize this objective and through its efforts, 70% of all the public facilities now have electricity.
Moving forward, the Authority will put more focus on renewable energy to provide electricity to areas far away from the national grid network.

The Authority is looking for experienced, highly motivated and results oriented individuals to fill vacancies in the organization. The applicants must be self-driven individuals who are focused and committed to driving the REA mandate.

Principal Engineer, Design

Duties and responsibilities:
·         Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual sectional reports;
·         Mentor and coach staff;
·         Participate in the implementation of the performance management system in the section;
·         Oversees the implementation of REA grid extension projects;
·         Participate in formulation of power system design standards and ensure they are adhered to;
·         Provide technical leadership and guidance on matters pertaining to design of distribution and transmission lines as necessary;
·         Participate in the formulation of power system design standards and ensure they are adhered to;
·         Implement policies and programmes on power system design;
·         Design, supervise and commission projects;
·         Prepare tenders documents ;

Qualifications:
·         Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy from a recognized institution;
·         Master’s Degree in a related field from a recognized institution;
·         Registered with Engineers Board of Kenya ;
·         Member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya;
·         Leadership /Management course lasting not less than four weeks is an added advantage;

Principal Engineer, Construction

·         Oversees the implementation of REA grid extension projects;
·         Provide technical leadership and guidance on matters pertaining to construction of power lines standards and ensure they are adhered to;
·         Implement policies and programmes on constructions of power lines;
·         Prepare tenders documents;
·         Factory acceptance test, supervision and commissioning of projects;
·         Prepare project accounts and payments;
·         Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual sectional reports;
·         Mentor and coach staff;
·         Participate in the implementation of the performance management system in the section;
·         Provide Technical advisory;
·         Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
·         Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power option) or in any other relevant field;
·         Master’s Degree in a related field from a recognized institution;
·         Registered Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya ;
·         Member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya;

Principal Engineer, Renewable Energy

·         Oversees the implementation of REA renewable energy projects;
·         Participate in the formulation of power system design standards and ensure they are adhered to;
·         Provide technical leadership and guidance on matters pertaining to the design of distribution and transmission lines as necessary;
·         Implement policies and programmes on Renewable Energy;
·         Identify renewable energy projects including those sponsored by development partners;
·         Design, supervise and commission renewable energy projects;
·         Prepare tenders documents;
·         Factory acceptance test, supervision and commissioning of projects ;
·         Provide technical advisory;
·         Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual sectional reports;
·         Mentor and coach staff;

Principal Accountant
REA 4

Duties and Responsibilities:
·         Preparing financial management reports ;
·         Ensuring financial processes and procedures are adhered to;
·         Complying with regulations pertaining to financial management and controls;

·         Verifying that expenditures are within project budgets;
Ensuring projects budgets overheads are remitted;
·         Analysing payments and carrying out data analysis to support preparation of accounting reports;
·         Extracting and providing cash liquidity analysis ;
·         Balancing and ruling of the cashbooks on a daily basis;
·         Oversee planning and budgeting processes;
·         Ensuring correct maintenance of customers and suppliers records for the purpose of payment;
·         Ensuring financial processes and procedures are adhered to;

Qualifications:
·         Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines:- Commerce (Accounting option); Commerce (Finance option); Business Administration (Accounting option) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
·         Certified Public Accountant (CPA,K) or Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA);
·         Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines:- Business Administration (Finance); Business Administration (Accounting); Master of Science in Finance or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

Principal Security Officer

Duties and Responsibilities:
·         Formulate, interpret and implement security policies and other procedures appertaining to security;
·         Carrying out prevention and investigations on fraud and theft cases;
·         Conduct investigations on criminal cases and presenting them to the police for appropriate action;
·         Safeguarding Authority assets against theft, pilferage, damage ,misuse, or sabotage;
·         Conduct investigations of motor vehicle accidents involving REA staff;
·         Liaising with other law enforcing agencies to ensure effective execution of security;
·         Representing the Authority in external investigations on matters of security;
·         Prepare timely and accurate investigation reports;
·         Prepare and implement the security budget;
·         Supervise all contracted security guards deployed in various assignments of the Authority;
·         Implement all security measures in all Authority premises-installing equipment’s, CCTV, access control systems and servicing ;

Qualifications:

Principal Human Resource Officer

Principal Internal Auditor

Duties and Responsibilities
·         Develop and update appropriate risk management and internal control framework for REA;
·         Review audit reports for all risk based audits conducted by Internal Audit staff and following up implementation of the audit recommendations;
·         Develop Audit Plan and schedules;
·         Summarize all the audit reports for presentation to the Audit Committee;
·         Prepare discussion papers on the recommendations of the Audit Committee for presentation at the Board meetings;
·         Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the department;
·         Prepare draft Board management papers for the Manager Internal Audit approval Prepare the departmental service charter;
·         Prepare and monitor the annual budget and work plan of the Internal Audit department;
·         Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
·         Bachelor of Commerce –Accounting or Finance Option or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
·         Master’s Degree in relevant field from a recognized institution;
·         CPA, ACCA, CA OR Registered Engineer ;
·         Qualification in CIA or CISA are an added advantage;
·         Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) in good standing. OR Member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) in good standing;
·         Leadership or Management course is an added advantage.
