Programme Management Officer
The United Nations Environment
Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that
sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of
the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United
Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global
environment.
UN Environment’s Ecosystems Division works with international and
national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the
implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental
management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in
transition. This post is located at the Nairobi duty station. Under the overall
supervision of the Chief, Climate Change Adaptation Unit, the incumbent will be
responsible for the following:
Responsibilities
·
Coordinate and manage the
implementation of the Global Adaptation Network (GAN):
·
Implement the UNEP project
“Mobilizing Climate Change Adaptation Knowledge through Global and Regional
Networks”, including programmatic and financial planning and fund raising,
donor coordination, and reporting.
·
Organize GAN Steering Committee
meetings and other meetings under the project, and represent the secretariat on
the areas of expertise, and ensure the follow-up of outcomes of the Steering
Committee meetings.
·
Organize adaptation knowledge-sharing
events, training workshops and seminars, in coordination and partnership with
other organizations, and represent the secretariat on the areas of expertise.
·
Develop a GAN communication and
outreach strategy, and develop, update and disseminate GAN and Regional Network
communication and outreach materials, including preparation of GAN
publications, technical reports and policy briefs, as well as maintaining the
GAN website.
·
Coordinate the implementation of
other activities included in annual GAN Work Plans and facilitate regional
network knowledge sharing and collaboration:
·
Coordinate activities for resource
mobilization and partnership development of the Global Adaptation Network (GAN)
Project:
·
Liaise, strengthen collaboration and
consolidate relationships with existing and potential GAN donors.
·
Undertake donor coordination, as
appropriate, with a view to developing a stable financial basis of the Global
Adaptation Network.
·
Enhance support by Member States on
the goals and vision of the global adaptation network and related programmes,
by supporting deliberations on adaptation knowledge management by the United
Nations Environment Assembly, the Committee of Permanent Representatives, and
other intergovernmental processes, as appropriate.
·
Strengthen GAN’s linkages and
contributions to UNFCCC processes and continue collaboration with the UNFCCC
secretariat (including the Lima Adaptation Knowledge Initiative).
·
Strengthen linkages with and
represent GAN in other adaptation knowledge management initiatives;
·
Contribute to the implementation of
knowledge-sharing and communications components of selected UNEP adaptation
projects.
·
Coordinate and support Regional
Networks linked with the Global Adaptation Network (GAN):
·
Coordinate the further development
and implementation of the GAN Regional Adaptation Networks in Asia-Pacific
(APAN), Latin America and the Caribbean (REGATTA), Africa (AAKNet), and West
Asia (WARN-CC).
·
Undertake donor coordination, as
appropriate, with a view to facilitating the development of a stable financial
basis for regional adaptation networks.
·
Provide major support to the
development of further regional and thematic networks
·
Strengthen exchange of information
and lessons learnt, knowledge-sharing and collaboration among the GAN Regional
Networks.
Qualifications

Knowledge and understanding of

progressively responsible experience in environmental policy including four
years working on climate change adaptation is required. Experience in
communications, adaptation knowledge exchange and international adaptation
actors is desirable.

English and French are the working
languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral
and written English is required. Working knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Senior Chinese Interpreter
Service up to seven meetings per week

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s

A minimum of ten years of

Programme Management Officer, Human
Settlements
The United Nations Human Settlements
Programme, UN-HABITAT, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by
the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable
towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The
objective of the post is to participate in the development, implementation,
coordination and evaluation of assigned programmes and projects in the Regional
Office for Africa related to climate change adaptation and mitigation, risk

Responsibilities

Support the development and
implementation activities, projects and programmes in sub-Saharan African
regarding Risk Reduction and Urban Resilience:

Support the operationalization of the
Technical Centre for Disaster Risk Management, Sustainability and Urban
Resilience (DiMSUR) being established in Maputo, Mozambique, and covering
initially four countries in southern Africa.
·
Participate in projects and
activities regarding the further development and implementation of the City
Resilience Action Planning (CityRAP) Tool in different countries and cities, in
coordination with DiMSUR and concerned country offices;
·
Undertake outreach activities and
making presentations on DiMSUR, CityRAP and other initiatives related to risk
reduction and urban resilience;
·
Establish partnerships with other
institutions (academic, research, NGOs, UN Agencies, bi/multi-lateral
cooperation programmes) for developing and implementing urban resilience work
in the region;

Contribute to the production of
UN-Habitat knowledge on these topics through publications and research
articles;

Senior Technical Adviser

Responsibilities

Provide advice, undertake project
design, formulate regional and global programmes and undertake resource
mobilization on National Urban Policy and National Spatial Plans to support
member states to effectively address urbanization by:

Providing technical advice on
National Urban Policies and National Spatial Plans by undertaking policy
analysis, developing tools and guides, responding to country demand for advisory
services and developing project proposals.

Advising on the development and
implementation of National Urban Policies and National Spatial Plans by
preparing concept notes, presentations and speeches, and advising on internal
capacity development in coordination with other UN-Habitat thematic branches

Supporting resource mobilization at
national, regional and global level linked to National Urban Policies and
National Spatial Plans, by developing project concept notes and proposals,

Support the development and

Chief of Staff
This position is located in the
Executive Office of UN Environment in Nairobi. Nairobi is classified as a
hardship B duty station and a family duty station. The incumbent reports
directly to the Executive Director of UN Environment.
Responsibilities
·
Directing and managing the Executive
Office through ensuring overall coordination of the substantive support to the
Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director in the implementation of their
mandates on behalf of the UN Secretary-General;

Formulating and implementing the work
programme of the Office, determining priorities and monitoring progress;
Managing the Executive Office teams of Special Assistants, Corporate
Coordination and Communication Officers; Overseeing the preparation of the
budget and processing of human resources matters, including Senior Appointments
for UN Environment.

Providing strategic advice in
planning for the Executive Director to fulfill his/her political and managerial
objectives in cooperation with the Deputy Executive Director and the

Responsibilities

Take the lead in strategy, planning,
development and implementation of large, complex communications campaigns (e.g.
global promotion initiatives, public information programmes for a region,
broad-reaching subject specific issues, etc.); where appropriate, work with
departments, funds and agencies to develop ways to implement campaigns
system-wide and to incorporate the campaign message and themes into all
