HR & Administration Manager
Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation (NTZDC) was established as a state Corporation under a Legal Gazette Notice No. 30 of 2002, revoking Legal Gazette Notice No. 265 of 1986, with the aim of promoting forest conservation by providing buffer zones of tea and fuelwood to check against human encroachment into the gazetted forests.

The Corporation’s operations are spread over nineteen (19) zones and two factories across Kenya, in the East and West of Rift Valley. The Corporation’s major activities are in tea growing, tea factory operations and local sales distribution of value added teas. The Corporation seeks to recruit qualified and competent Kenyan citizens to fill the following positions:
Reporting to the Head of Human Resource & Administration, the job holder will be responsible for forecasting the Human Resource requirement, resourcing, compensation and general administration.

Roles

·         Give guidance to other departments on career, succession management, human resource planning and optional utilization of Human Resources.
·         Carry out short, medium and long-term Human Resource planning in line with the strategic plan and other projections.
·         Monitor and coordinate staff placement/deployment throughout the Corporation and its subsidiaries.
·         Review staffing norms in collaboration with the user departments.
·         Coordinate the design, development and review of the organization structure.
·         Ensure effective payroll management.
·         Manage staff registry.
·         Develop policies and procedures of record management.
·         Benchmark with comparable organization for the best practices on Human Resource planning.
·         Ensure that staff are deployed appropriately.
·         Ensure that staff recruitment match the requirements of the Corporation.
·         Ensure recruitment does not exceed the approved establishment.
·         Up skill and educate line management regarding the resourcing process, the appropriate implementation and usage of interviewing regulations.
·         Define and ensure implementation of innovative resourcing strategies that will enable the establishment of a diverse pool of talent.
·         Ensure compliance to the Corporations policies, regulations and statutory requirements.
·         Liaise with other departments in preparation of leave schedule.
·         Provide advice on grievances and disciplinary procedures to ensure that the emerging issues are resolve amicably.
·         Prepare and manage departmental annual budgets/estimates.
·         Keep inventory of office aquipments stationeries and procurement of office services.
·         Ensure uniform interpretation and application of the Corporation’s rule and regulations.
·         Ensure proper and timely implementation of Health, Safety and Environment regulations and procedures.
·         Coordinate the review on Management salaries and benefits in liaison with salaries and remuneration commission.
·         Spearhead review of existing rules and regulations, as and when necessary.
·         Ensure Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation rules and regulations are consistent with the Constitution of Kenya.
·         Perform any other duty assigned.

Requirements

·         Bachelors Degree in Human Resources Management, Social Sciences or equivalent qualification.
·         Diploma in Human Resource Management.
·         Relevant Masters Degree will be an added advantage.
·         Must be a valid member of Institute of Human Resource Management.
·         Must have at least 7 years hands-on experience of which 3 of it must be at a managerial position.
·         Must have excellent interpersonal and presentations skills.
·         Good analytical skills.

Training & Development Manager

Reporting to the Head of Human Resource & Administration, the job holder will be responsible for the training and development of staff in the Corporation and its subsidiaries to ensure that the Corporation achieves its objectives. The position is also responsible for the management of staff performance and change management in the Corporation.

Duties

·         Develop, implement and review training and development policies, procedures and programs.
·         Manage Training Needs Analysis, source trainers, coordinate and evaluate training.
·         Prepare and control training and development budget.
·         Develop and maintain staff skills databank and conduct skills audit on annual basis.
·         Coordinate, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs.
·         Propose performance improvement strategies as necessary.
·         Coordinate implementation of performance management system, including performance appraisal systems, rewards and sanctions framework.
·         Liaise with third parties on training matters.
·         Analyze the departments quarterly performance report and advise management on the way forward.
·         Coordinate and monitor change management in the Corporation.
·         Establish a continuous performance and quality improvement effort, monitoring and reporting system.
·         Ensure establishment of key performance indicators and update regularly as appropriate.
·         Facilitate departmental section that embeds the organization culture to support strategic objectives.
·         Lead in projects that have a change impact on staff.
·         Perform any other duty assigned.

Requirements

·         Bachelors Degree in Human Resources Management, Social Sciences or equivalent qualification.
·         Diploma in Human Resource Management.

Factory Manager

Roles

·         Ensure optimal factory capacity utilization.
·         Ensure production of quality made tea.
·         Formulation and communication of appropriate factory strategies, policies and procedures for effective management of the factory.
·         Efficient utilization of available resources in the factory.
·         Coordinate all human resource matters of the factory including participating in HR planning, recruitment and discipline of factory employees.
·         Ensure supervision, appraisal and human resource development of factory employees.
·         Coordination of factory budgetary activities including control of expenditure.
·         Coordination of factory activities that include green leaf collection to tea processing.

Strategy & Corporate Performance Manager

Reporting to the Managing Director, job holder will participate in preparation of Corporate Strategic Plans, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of strategic plan achievements in terms of business performance.

Responsibilities

·         Coordinate formulation of strategic corporate business plans (short, medium and long term).
·         Participate in the development of policies and strategies to help management achieve corporate goals and objectives as per business plans.
·         Coordinate the implementation process of business plans, projections and strategies.
·         Evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency and appropriateness of business standards and targets, and make recommendations for addressing performance gaps.
·         Develop parameters for measuring implementation of plans and strategies.
·         Carry out business environmental studies and analysis on Corporation’s products and services.
·         Carry out research to improve the current Corporation products, and recommend introduction of new products to expand the product portfolio.
·         Compile the quarterly performance reports for submission to the relevant offices.
·         Analyze the quarterly performance report and advise management on the way forward.

Plant Technician

Reporting to the Factory Manager, job holder is responsible for ensuring that all machinery, equipment and motor vehicles are properly maintained for effective operations of the factory.

Tasks

·         Adhere to and implement policies and strategies on machinery, equipment and motor vehicles.
·         Develop maintenance and servicing schedules for all machinery and motor vehicles.
·         Ensure timely maintenance and servicing of all factory machinery, equipment and motor vehicles.
·         Inspect, test, repair, maintain and service.
·         Proper record keeping of all factory machinery, equipment and motor vehicles.
·         Proper coordination of mechanics and electricians.
·         Provide guidelines and basic training on proper use and maintenance of equipment and machinery.
·         Ensure adherence to Health Safety and environment regulations.
·         Ensure provision of safe working conditions within the factory and eliminate hazards and risks.
·         Prepare and avail information and reports on all activities.

Requirements

·         KCSE C or Equivalent.
·         Advanced Higher National Diploma in Electromechanical technology (plant option) or equivalent qualification.
·         At least 5 years’ experience in factory maintenance.

Tea Zone Manager

Reporting to the Regional Manager, job holder is responsible for management of the one to achieve profitability through practice of proper agronomic practices, cost controls and staff management.

Tasks

·         Managing the Zonal Office in accordance with approved policies and procedures of the Corporation.
·         Monitoring the performance of all green leaf production units and forest conservation in the assigned zone.
·         Enhancing quality standard of green leaf and forest conservation as per policies and specifications.
·         Implementing agriculture and forest conservation plans and strategies as per approved policies.
·         Participating in the preparation of budget and control through effective utilization of available resources in the zone.
·         Preparing and implementing approved scheduled work plans for all field activities.
·         Ensuring timely availability of required supplies/inputs for all farms/blocks for timely achievement of set performance targets.
·         Monitoring and reviewing the production and forest conservation level against set targets.
·         Training employees on production method, process standards and specifications of green leaf & forest conservation.
·         Ensuring field equipment are repaired and calibrated.
·         Coordinating and organizing for timely collection and delivery of quality green leaf from buying centers.
·         Liaising with KTDA and other factories on enforcing green leaf quality.
·         Supervision, appraising staff and identifying their development and training needs.
·         Preparing timely and accurate reports, and distributing them to appropriate users.
·         Planning and operating the transport systems, including proper maintenance of transport fleet for green leaf collection and delivery to the factories.
·         Planning and coordinating agricultural and forest development projects in the zone, including monitoring the expansion of tea growing areas and their respective hectares.
·         Ensuring establishment of the seedlings nurseries in the respective zones.
·         Effectively managing the labour issues and the welfare of employees in the zone.
·         Controlling the stores operations as per established policies and procedures.
·         Promoting positive relation in the community and participating in the development committees in the zone.
·         Approving payment vouchers as per established systems and approved levels.
·         Coordinating the preparation of muster roll and payment of wages in the assigned zone.
·         Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Management Trainee (Plant & Factory Production)

The Management Trainees will undergo an extensive, well-structured training program, designed to provide a strong knowledge of all aspects of Tea field and Factory operations. The purpose is to prepare the Management trainees for management positions in future after gaining the required experience. The successful applicants will undergo a one year on the job training and after completion, the successful trainees will be absorbed into the permanent establishment and deployed appropriately.

Chief Security Officer

Key Tasks

·         Advice management of appropriate security and safety standards measures undertaken.

·         Lead security risk operations.
·         Oversee security risk assessments.
·         Control disaster management.

Requirements

·         Must have served at the level of Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and above or in a comparable position in the security forces for 5 years.

Responsibilities

·         Allocating and supervision of duties to workers and managing their welfare.

·         Implementing production plans and strategies as per approved policies.
·         Maintaining accurate production records and information
·         Ensuring effective utilization of labour and production resources and minimizing any loss.

Roller Sharpener

Reporting to the Plant Technician, the job holder will be involved in the operation of Lathe Machines to perform various maintenance activities of all factory machines to ensure machine availability and efficiency at all times.

Key Tasks

·         CTC Rollers sharpening.
·         CTC Rollers changing.
·         Checking roller cutting efficiency.
·         Multi-purpose lathe operation.
·         General machine service.
·         Record keeping and update of documents.
·         Attending machines breakdowns.
·         Inspection of various factory machines.

Qualifications

·         Must have KCSE C plain.
·         Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
·         Must have a minimum of 2 years hands-on experience in similar processing plant.
·         Good communication skills
·         A team player.
·         Computer Literate.
