Data Manager
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is the global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV/AIDS and has reached more than 26 million women, with services to prevent transmission of HIV to their babies. EGPAF is supporting activities in 19 countries and nearly 6,000 sites to implement prevention, care and treatment services; to further advance innovative research; and to execute global advocacy activities that bring dramatic change to the lives of millions of women, children and families worldwide.
In Kenya, EGPAF works in partnership with the Ministry of Health and various County governments to support HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment in 12 counties. EGPAF is mainly funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The Foundation seeks a Data Manager with experience in the collection, organization, analysis and reporting of quantitative data, including large data sets of patient-level data. The Data Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing data quality strategies and training staff, including MOH staff, on data quality management. The Data Manager will work with the EGPAF evaluation/research unit and support all research and evaluation activities.

Duties

·         Under the leadership of thePublic Health Evaluation (PHE) and Data Management Leads, oversee and coordinate data entry and management, including data quality control
·         Participate in the design of the study database and guiding documents (i.e. data entry tools, data dictionary, user guidance and job aids). ) Work with Principal Investigator (PI), under the guidance of the PHE Lead, to develop and implement the e data analysis plan
·         Develop and execute procedures for the abstraction and merging of data records from source databases into a study database
·         Contribute to the design of protocols, which includes the methodology, analysis, quality control and reporting sections for both quantitative and qualitative data.
·         Responsible for the writing, training, and oversight of the data management Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), job aids, guidance etc.
·         Document data management-related changes
·         Maintain manual logs of data queries generated and their resolution
·         Liaise with study coordinator to follow-up data errors, discrepancies, and missing information for ongoing data cleaning
·         Maintain a log of data collection forms flow between Data Center (DC) and the study sites
·         Maintain the integrity, security and data backup of the study database
·         Perform ongoing data quality checks

·         Responsible for data validation through reconciliation process
·         Perform preliminary quantitative analysis on research datasets.

Qualifications

·         Degree in information technology, health information management, statistics, epidemiology or any relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
·         Minimum three years’ experience as a data manager for research.
·         Experience in a health-related research and program evaluation desirable
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
·         Knowledge of database languages, such as SQL is essential
·         Knowledge of statistical packages, e.g. STATA, SPSS and basic statistical analyses preferable
·         Good understanding of data processing/management
·         Excellent database computing skills, including a high level of competency in the use of Microsoft Access (including the creation of databases, queries, forms etc.), Excel and Word
·         Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail and a focus on quality and innovation
·         The ability to prioritize work, exercise initiative and work with minimal direction
·         The ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues
·         Results oriented with a demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member
·         Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are required
·         Ability to travel to the field regularly
·         Fluent in both English and Kiswahili
