Reporting to the Head of Engineering we are looking for individuals who want to turn terra-bytes of data into actionable insights and new products for our customers. As a data scientist you will be working side by side with designers, product managers and our global partners from industry and academia.
We expect you to take full ownership of your work, from conception all the way to the final product on our platform. Our ideal candidate is result-oriented, with great ideas and solid quantitative skills to turn ideas into reality. You should have solid machine learning and analytics skills.

Roles

·         Work in a multi-disciplined team and take ownership of turning ideas into machine learning models;
·         Produce products or improve existing products with short turnaround times and Solid development and analytical approaches to create viable implementations.

Requirements

·         Bachelor of Science or MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
·         Prior experience with a few of the following techniques: logistic regression, SVM, Neural Nets, Game Theory
·         Strong communications and interpersonal skills and quick grasps to understand business problems
·         Proficient in at least Python and R
·         At least 2-3 years of coding experience in a non-university setting.

Database Administrator
We are pleased to announce the following Database Administration vacancy in the IS Operations Department within the Technology Division.   In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.
Reporting to the Senior Manager – Infrastructure Support, the position holder will be responsible for Administration, Performance tuning, Capacity planning, management and 3rd line support of ALL Safaricom Enterprise Database (DB) Systems that include DBs for Oracle e-Business Suite (ERP), BI Systems, CRM, Fraud Management, Revenue Assurance, POS and all other IT database systems.

Roles

·         Database administration and support lifecycle including backup/recovery, automation, maintenance;
·         Supporting the development, system test, user acceptance, training and production database environments;
·         Ensure 99.99% availability maintained for all critical databases;
·         Ensure 95% of tickets raised are responded to within the 1st hour of incident reporting;
·         Ensure 90% of tickets closure is maintained;
·         Identify and implementing Best Practices for Database Administration;
·         Design BCP and HA solutions for critical systems in order to achieve zero downtime during maintenance and failures;
·         Assist Infrastructure, Enterprise Business Unit (EBU) teams and other Technology teams with hardware and support requirements for database administration;
·         Ensure Conformance to security standards for databases and data integrity;
·         Develop retention policies and architecture for all systems, whilst maintaining BCP;
·         Ensure regular reviews on ILM policies conducted;
·         Ensure dimensioning of systems is done periodically based on demand experienced and projected;
·         Ensure optimal performance of all systems maintained conforming to the SLA agreements between business and Quality Assurance.

Requirements

·         Degree in Computer Science or Technical Related Field;
·         With at least 4 years’ hands on Experience in Managing large databases;
·         Experience in Oracle RAC, Dataguard, RMAN and Engineered Database & Exalytic Systems.Database Systems Administration Techniques – understanding DB Performance tuning on various Operating Systems.Attention to details and analytical thinking.Certification –OCP DBA;

Reporting to the Chief innovation Officer we are looking for a strong leader to head our product management team responsible for developing new solutions relevant to Safaricom’s customers.
Our ideal candidate is a creative leader with an understanding of our regional market, a passion and track record for building usable products and a solid understanding of the transformative potential of technology.
The role holder should have deep expertise in at least one particular industry, such as financial sector, agriculture, education or any other related field. We are looking for a hands-on product manager with at least 10-15 years of experience in entrepreneurial and corporate environments, who has successfully demonstrated the ability to develop innovative products.
They should be a collaborative person, who works well with engineering teams and have strong management skills. They should also be able to take products from conception to deployment and should be well versed in doing so in iterative and agile ways.
The role holder should have worked in international environments and are familiar with current trends in tech. They should set the bar for developing a high performance product management team and bring new products into both local and global markets.

Roles

·         Provide vision and strategy for Safaricom’s innovation roadmap from a product perspective;
·         Own the creation, execution and successful delivery of the Innovation Product Strategy, which includes managing the full product lifecycle;
·         Understand and analyze user needs, and conduct research on markets and competitors;
·         Build and manage a product roadmap to support Safaricom’s goals and strategies;
·         Initiate and prioritize projects within our engineering team, track product development and develop product launch plans;
·         Engage closely with the head of engineering to help determine the best technical implementation methods and reasonable execution schedules;

Our ideal candidate is an engineering leader with hands-on technology expert with at least 10-15 years of experience in entrepreneurial and corporate environments and who has a proven record of software engineering and data science excellence in addition to managerial skills.
The successful candidate should have deep experience in a wide range of technologies, has worked in international environments and is familiar with the most current trends in tech.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to setup a new team consisting of software engineers and data scientists and will lead by example, develop technical capacity and create an inclusive team empowered to take big risks.

Enterprise Customer Support Engineer

Reporting to the Enterprise Customer Support Manager – the holder of the position will provide technical support for Enterprise customers and ensure service requests from customers are fulfilled within defined SLA’s. The role holder will also ensure timely service delivery.

Roles

Senior Manager Indirect Channel
