Study Office Assistant

Qualifications

·         Certificate in Office Administration/Management/Human Resource or related field

·         Must have attained at least D+ in KCSE
·         Competent computer skills including MS Office or equivalent
·         Internet skills including use of e-mails, group messaging and data collection
·         Experience in front office management or related areas for at least one year is required
·         Certificate of good conduct mandatory

Job Responsibilities

·         Maintain office orderliness

Data Research Assistants

Reports to: Data Manager–PTBI
Location: Migori County
Duration: 1 year renewable

Qualifications

·         Diploma in Community Health/ Health Records and Information Technology or any other health related field
·         At least 1 year experience in research work especially in public health or medical field
·         Degree in Biostatistics or Statistics is an added advantage
·         Good knowledge of Microsoft office especially Access, Excel and Word.
·         Experience with data base creation is an added advantage
·         Knowledge of health system is an added advantage
Job Responsibilities
·         Routine data collection from various health facilities in Migori County-visit each facility monthly to collect data in collaboration with facility staff for routine program data monitoring.
·         Conduct data entry from the MOH registers in the health facilitiesas well as organizing data strengthening activities.
·         Conduct data management activities in response to data queries as needed.
·         Support the data managers in their duties.

Study Clinical Officer

Qualifications

·         Diploma in Clinical Medicine (CO)
·         Higher National Diploma in Paediatrics is an added advantage
·         At least 3 years of work experience both in clinical and in medical research
·         Very good knowledge of MS Office package is required.
·         Training in Good Clinical Research Practices is an added advantage.

Roles and Responsibilities

·         Collection of clinical data for the project from the Health facilities
·         Ensure quality of clinical follow-up of participants
·         Strengthen clinical care of preterm babies
·         Train staff on various components of saving and enhancing care of the preterm babies
·         Monitor and evaluate the consenting process and address issues that arise accordingly
·         Ensure research participants are followed up for study end points
·         Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

Study Nurse

Reports to: Program Manager
Location: Migori County
Duration: 1 year renewable
The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and University of California San Francisco (UCSF) are collaborating in a three-year implementation science study to decrease the burden of preterm births and associated deaths.
The main activities will focus on improving data use, health care quality improvements and capacity strengthening around intrapartum and postnatal care. The project is conducted in Migori County. The study seeks to fill the following position:

Qualifications

·         Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN) (Degree in nursing is an added advantage)
·         At least 3 years of research work experience in both clinical and medical research
·         Good report writing skills is mandatory.
·         Very good knowledge of MS Office package is required.
·         Training in Good Clinical Research Practices is an added advantage.

Roles and Responsibilities

·         Plan, coordinate and supervise activities of the Community Health Volunteers (CHVs)
·         Collection of daily consenting data from the CHVs
·         Ensure relevant tools are available to the CHVs
·         Monitor and evaluate the consenting process and address any matters arising accordingly
·         Ensure accurate records and reports and maintain their safety as required
·         Link up with other program leaders in empowering and motivating PTBI affiliated CHVs on a regular basis through trainings
·         Address on-site challenges raised by CHVs
·         Ensure research participants are followed up for study end points
·         Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time time

Deputy Director, Research & Development (R&D)

Reporting to the Director KEMRI

Responsibilities

·         Establish strategic partnerships for research, innovations, and technology transfer and product development;
·         Approve commercialization of research products, services, and support intellectual property protection and related activities;
·         Oversee the development, implementation and co-ordination of training programmes and capacity building activities in the Institute;
·         Spearhead the development and implementation of resource mobilization strategy to support research and innovations in the Institute;
·         Ensure prudent resource management and compliance to budgetary requirements and financial reporting;
·         Ensure maintenance of accurate and up to database of all Research assets including research projects and intellectual properties;
·         Oversee the preparation and implementation of strategic plans and annual work plans for the Centres, Scientific programmes and the Scientific Ethical Review Unit (SERU);
·         Ensure compliance with research policy, regulation, standards and guidelines;
·         Facilitate dissemination, translation and implementation of research findings;
·         Interpret the Science, Technology and Innovation Act and other relevant statutes in relation to the Institute;
·         Spearhead partnerships, collaborations and links with professional institutions and related bodies in advancing the Institute’s interest;
·         Developing and implementing Institutional research Policy;
·         Responsible for KEMRI’s scientific dissemination demonstrated by policy briefs, publications and patents;

Requirements

·         Served in a senior research position for a minimum period of 10 years 5 of which must have been in senior management level in human health research;
·         A proven track record in scientific research supported by funding and at least ten (10) scientific publications in referred journal;
·         A proven track record in leadership and management with at least seven (7) years of experience at Senior Management level. Strategic management experience will be a definite added advantage;
·         Bachelors degree in any of the following fields;-Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy,
·         Biomedical Sciences, Public Health or any relevant Social Science from a recognized Institution;
·         Masters degree in any of the following fields;-, Medicine/Pharmacy/Dentistry,
·         Veterinary Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Community Health, Epidemiology, or any relevant
·         Social Science from recognized institution;
·         Doctor of Philosophy degree in any of the following fields:-Biomedical Sciences,

Responsible to the KEMRI Board of Management, the Director KEMRI shall provide strategic leadership and shall be in charge of the day-to-day running of the Institute on behalf of the Board of Management. The highly performing and results-oriented leader will ensure achievement of the Institute’s goals, objectives and agreed performance targets.

Director Job Responsibilities

·         Ensure excellence in research and innovation for human health;
·         Be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Institute;
·         Provide appropriate support and leadership to employees of the Institute;
·         Responsible for the achievement of the objectives of the Institute;
·         Prepare the annual operating budgets and establish proper internal monitoring and control systems and procedures;
·         Develop and recommend to the Board the Institute’s research and development strategy;
·         Responsible for the execution and communication of the Board’s strategies, decisions and policies;
·         Ensure that the Institute has an effective management structure including succession plans;
·         Maintain a high performance organization drivenby talented and competent staff who consistently deliver outstanding results;

Requirements

·         Be a Kenyan citizen;
·         Be a holder of Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields;-Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health or any relevant Social Science from a recognized Institution;
·         Be a holder of Master’s degree in any of the following fields;-, Clinical Medicine/ Surgery/ Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Community Health, Epidemiology, or any relevant Social Science from a recognized institution;
·         Be a holder of Doctor of Philosophy degree in a relevant field;
OR Hold equivalent experience;
·         Must be registered with a relevant professional body;
·         Have at least ten (10) years’ experience in research five (5) of which must be in a Strategic leadership position in a large research organization;
·         Training in Business, Management and Leadership will be an added advantage;
·         Demonstrated research experience with publications in reviewed journals;

·         Have the ability to initiate, develop and enhance current and future collaborative activities of the Institute with

·         Demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, management and leadership capabilities and initiative in the general organization and management of research and a thorough understanding of research policies and regulations;
