Field Officers - EGPAF / CIFF Adolescent Project

Job Purpose / Objective: EGPAF seeks to hire full-time Field Officers to support selected health facilities in Homabay County in the intensive case finding, ART initiation, adherence to treatment, access to viral load, viral suppression adherence counselling and retention in care for HIV-infected children and adolescents.
Job Purpose / Objective: EGPAF seeks to hire full-time Field Officers to support selected health facilities in Homabay County in the intensive case finding, ART initiation, adherence to treatment, access to viral load, viral suppression adherence counselling and retention in care for HIV-infected children and adolescents.
The Field Officers will take
part in CMEs, MDTs, CQI, identification and implementation of QI projects, on
job trainings and mentorship activities in the facilities, jointly with MOH
site staffs.
Under the technical and
administrative supervision of the EGPAF Project Manager and the CCC in charge,
the Field Officer will provide quality HIV Care and Treatment services to all
HIV-positive children and adolescents enrolled in selected clinics.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Support a
cluster of facilities in clinical assessment, proper case management and
prescription of treatment for children and adolescents attending the CCC
Clinics as per the national guidelines.
- Provide
technical support and mentorship to facility staff to adhere to national
HIV/AIDS care and treatment guidelines on-site mentoring, coaching and
on-job training trainings.
- Continuously
review patient files and ensure line listing of all clients eligible for
VL, take blood samples for eligible patients and ensure that all patients’
viral load results are up to date in patient files and acted upon.
- Review clients
with high viral loads, proactively work with peer educators and adherence
counsellors to identify possible reasons for suspected treatment failure,
and take appropriate steps based on identified issues to ensure their
effective management.
- Ensure that all
clients are supported with adherence counselling, health education and
treatment literacy sessions at all clinic visits, paying special attention
to the initial enrolment visit.
- Ensure
disclosure is initiated at the right time and all children and adolescents
have received age appropriate disclosure.
- Ensure
effective retention strategies are in place for all children and
adolescents on ART, including enrolment in PSSGs and OTZ clubs.
- Ensure
effective defaulter tracing mechanism is in place for both TB/HIV patients
and participate in targeted home visits.
- Ensures proper
patient record keeping on ART, Pre ART and other records according to the
MOH guidelines.
- Ensure that all
assessments and treatments provided are properly documented in patient's
files.
- Ensure all
patient data, records and registers are updated and are kept safe in the
CCC unit or other spaces as identified in each clinic
- Prepare and
submit site reports on weekly or monthly basis as needed.
- Ensure
availability of clinical protocols and SOPs in the facility.
- Help identify
topics/cases and areas for CMEs, MDT discussions and CQI activities,
participate in discussions and maintain an up to date record of all the
sessions.
- Participate in
biweekly CCC staff meeting to enhance quality of care for patients.
- Ensure integration
of TB/HIV activities for children and adolescents in the facility.
- Support
implementation of caregiver treatment literacy trainings at supported
sites.
- Ensure 100%
utilization of paediatric and adolescent TA tool in all supported sites.
- Ensure efficient,
streamlined linkage of children and adolescents newly identified in the
facility.
- Support
community-facility linkages.
- Perform other
duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience
Education and/or Experience
- Diploma/Degree
in Clinical Medicine from a recognized Medical College
- Possess a valid
registration certificate from the Clinical Officer Council of Kenya
- Certificate of
Training in Pediatric ART from National Aids control council (NASCOP)
Kenya
- Training in
APOC and counselling skills are an added advantage
- At least 3-5
years’ clinical and programmatic experience in HIV/AIDS management
- Good computer
skills, especially with Microsoft Word and Excel, and in internet-based
communications
- Understanding
of HIV/AIDS care and treatment, especially for children and adolescents
