The company wishes to recruit the following staff:
Assistant Accountant
Job Ref No: AA 2016
1 Position

Reporting to the Accountant, the position holder will be responsible for the following duties:
·         Maintaining books of accounts
·         Management of payables
·         Prepare periodic financial reports
·         Preparation of bank reconciliation
·         Petty cash management
·         Maintenance of cheque register and
·         Preparation of Income Tax Returns
Education, Skills & Experience:
·         CPA II or its equivalent;
·         Proficiency in computer accounting packages;
·         Knowledge on tax matters;
·         Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, a practical knowledge of financial systems and internal financial controls
·         A minimum of at least two years’ experience in an accounting field
Appointment to this position will be on a permanent and pensionable basis subject to a six month probation period.
Water Operator

3 Positions
Reporting to the Water Production and Distribution Supervisor, the officer will be responsible for:
·         Controlling treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use: Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant.
·         Dumps specified amounts of chemicals, such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.
·         Starts agitators to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank.
·         Turns valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities.
·         Pumps purified water into water mains.
·         Monitors panel board and adjusts controls to regulate flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation, and distribution of water.
·         Cleans tanks and filter beds, using backwashing.
·         Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
·         Tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities, using colorimeter, turbid meter, and conductivity meter.
·         Adds chemicals such, as alum into tanks to coagulate impurities and to reduce acidity.
·         Records data, such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure.
·         May operate portable water-purification plant to supply drinking water.
Education, Skills & Experience
·         Diploma in Water Engineering. A Certificate holder in the same field with 4 years’ experience will be considered.
·         2 years’ experience in Water Treatment Facility

Water Production and Distribution Supervisor 
Job Ref No: WPDS 2016
1 Position
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the officer will be responsible for:
1. Understanding water treatment theory / technology and apply that knowledge to the water treatment process / production.

2. Operating a water treatment plant which includes:
A. Monitoring of gauges, flow meters, charts, system control computer, etc.
B. Conducting water analysis tests such as hardness, alkalinity, PH, turbidity, chlorine residual, etc., for treatment process control.
C. Determining chemical feed rates and adjust chemical dosages.
D. Determining and maintaining proper flow rates and in accordance with water consumption demand.
E. Maintaining treatment records in accordance with KIWASCO regulations.
F. Backwashing filters as needed.
3. Conducting water analysis tests to ensure safety and water quality by collecting representative water samples and testing for contaminants and properties such as color, odor, chlorine levels, nitrification, etc…
4. Ensuring that plant operations are in compliance with operating guidelines and that treated water is safe and acceptable entering the distribution system.
5. Maintaining all required records such as operating logs, chemical and repair part inventories, maintenance logs; distributes information to internal and external personnel.
6. Performing routine preventive maintenance on plant equipment to include: operating adjustments and calibrations on equipment, basic mechanical and electrical work and cleaning, lubricating and replacing equipment parts.
7. Maintaining the Dodge pre-treatment chloramination facility including routine maintenance, calibration of chemical injection equipment and adjusting chemical feed rates.
8. Collecting water samples to monitor and analyze residuals for disinfection and nitrification control when needed.
9. Conducting regular safety inspections of plant equipment and facilities record violations or potential hazards and take corrective action.
10. Knowledge of plant manuals such as maintenance, treatment and safety.
11. Performance of minor corrective maintenance on plant equipment.
12. Discuss water quality with the technical manager.
13. Order chemicals, repair parts and tools.
14. Must be available for and willing to be on-call on a 24-hour basis.
15. Assist KIWASCO Water Distribution Operators during emergencies or as may be required to maintain quality service to KIWASCO’S customers.
16. Performing other related duties required from time to time.
Education, Skills & Experience
·         Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Water Engineering.
·         A Diploma holder in the same field with 5 years experience will be considered.
·         Registered Engineer (an added advantage)
·         Applicants with at least three (3) years’ experience in water operations.
·         Advanced – Level proficiency in Managerial Skills (Planning, Organizing, Controlling, Directing, Coordinating)
Appointment to this position will be on a three year renewable contract subject to satisfactory performance and delivery of set performance targets and outcomes.

Accountant
Job Ref No: AC 2016
1 Position
Reporting to the Managing Director, the position holder will be responsible for the following duties:
·         Coordinate timely and accurate preparation of budgets, ensure budgetary controls, constantly monitor expenditure and report on variances;
·         Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports in an accurate and timely manner and prepare all the documents that are required to support the periodical auditing exercise;
·         Prepare cash flows statements and bank reconciliations;
·         Ensure that all accounting transactions comply with set financial systems and controls and initiate remedial action where this is not the case;
·         Prepare and continually review aged (debtor/creditor) analysis report and advise management accordingly;
·         Assist in project proposal financial assessment for feasibility;
·         Compile tax reports/statutory returns, ensuring that these are submitted in a timely manner to the relevant authorities and consult with tax advisors as and when necessary;
·         Liaise with the external auditors during interim and annual audit and follow-up.
·         Develop and maintain internal control and effective accounting system and policies for KIWASCO-KBU;
·         Establish and maintain systems for cost-sensitivity analysis and early-warning of cost-overruns;
·         Work consultatively with the respective departments on cost reduction initiatives;
·         Liaise with project managers in preparing and implementing annual project plans and budgets;
·         Ensure compliance with donors’ rules and regulations;
·         Preparing monthly/quarterly financial reports on the status of project activities.
·         Manage relationships with key stakeholders including banks, suppliers, and key customers;
·         Confirm financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses; coordinating the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data;
·         Maintain accounting controls by establishing a chart of accounts; defining accounting policies;
·         Enforce current accounting regulations and recommend new procedures for proposed legislation.
·         Managing all affairs related to the company’s human resources including recruitment, training and development, performance management, industrial relations, health and safety.
Education, Skills & Experience:
·         A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounts or Finance;
·         Fully qualified accountant – CPA (K)/ACCA , etc.;
·         A member of ICPAK or any other related/relevant professional body;
·         Proficiency in computer accounting packages;
·         Must have extensive experience on tax matters;
·         Ability to work accurately and effectively with multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced environment;
·         A minimum of (3) years’ relevant working experience, one (1) of them spent at managerial level with relevant responsibility in an organization serving a large and demanding public;
·         In-depth understanding of the project management cycle;
·         Good communication and presentation skills;
·         Experience in financial reporting and MIS as per IFRS and IPSAS;
·         Experience in dealing with Statutory and Internal Auditors;
·         Self -driven and ability to work under strict deadlines;
·         A Master’s degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
