Principal Medical Officer
Reporting to the Administration Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing operations of the university’s Department of Health Services.
Key Responsibilities
·         Supervise and lead the Health Services department team
·         Oversee the day to day operations of the department to ensure good service delivery and smooth operations in accordance with the university policies and best practice in medical services.
·         Diagnosing and treatment of patients
·         Carry out minor surgical procedures
·         Oversee procurement of medical supplies and services
·         Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements
·         Advising and counseling of patients
·         Handle referrals of patients
·         Organize regular health education forums for the university community
·         Follow up of the university’s, staff and students insurance claims.
·         Manage the health services department to ensure the university gets value for money.
·         Manage student insurance covers.
·         Manage employee medical, life and group accident insurance covers.
·         Manage the health services budget
·         Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience
·         Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (MBChB), from an accredited university.
·         Registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
·         At least 10 years post-internship working experience as a medical officer, 5 of which should be in a management / administrator role.

·         Experience managing a busy health center or hospital for at least 5 years – as an administrator /manager.
·         A degree in Health Systems Management (HSM) or a management-related field will be an added advantage.

University Nurse
2 Positions
Reporting to the Principal Medical Officer, the holder of this position will be required to provide nursing care to patients, treat medical emergencies, and administer prescribed medications under the supervision of a clinician.
He/she will ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment and procedures are properly carried out in accordance with nursing standards.
Key Responsibilities
·         Triage patients and observation of vital signs.
·         Man the Medical Center reception and receive patients
·         Maintain medical records
·         Observe and monitor patients’ conditions.
·         Offer medical advice to clients
·         Assist in surgical procedures and dressing of wounds
·         Sterilize surgical equipment and packaging them
·         Referral (where necessary) of medical emergencies
·         Accompany patients to hospitals upon referral (in the ambulance)
·         General housekeeping of Medical Center – maintaining proper hygiene standards
·         Assist in preparation/pre-packaging  of first aid kits,
·         Assist the clinician in administering drugs when needed
·         Assist in monthly stock take
·         Send invoices monthly and follow up payments
Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience
·         Diploma in Nursing from an accredited medical training institution
·         Kenya Registered Nurse/Kenya Registered Community Nurse
·         Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya
·         3 years’ proven experience in a Level 4 Hospital
·         (Preference will be given to a candidate with experience in a university setting)
Skills

·         Proficiency in computer applications (Health Management Systems)
