Job Description: Youth Entrepreneurship Coordinator  
 
CAP Youth Empowerment Institute Kenya, is supported by MasterCard Foundation, was established to provide Basic Employability Skills Training (BEST) for disadvantaged youth in the society with particular focus on women to get equitable, qualitative learning and access to promising labour market oriented opportunities, savings and credit that support their pathways to safe and positive futures.
 
The key purpose of the organization is to assist over 23,030 disadvantaged youth to make informed choices, develop labour-market oriented employability skills and access job placements, savings and enterprise development support.
 


Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the enhancement and growth of CAP YEI’s entrepreneurship components of all the organizations youth employability programs
  • Training, coaching and support for the CAP YEI entrepreneurship team and other  staff in order to grow the entrepreneurship program
  • Work with the Programs Director and the senior team to further develop the core components of the CAP YEI Entrepreneurship Program; 
  • Promote the Youth Entrepreneurship Program through traditional and social media outlets,
  • Develop collaboration and networking with other organizations and corporates to enhance the livelihood benefits of entrepreneurship for youth.
  • Develop  and mentor youth micro businesses and track their progress and impact 
  • Ensure maintenance of up-to-date database for youth alumni and partners engaged in the entrepreneurship pathway
  • Design and implement new initiatives to further grow the business/livelihoods pathway of the CAP program
  •  Research models for youth entrepreneurial support programs and lead the integration of best practices to improve the program and benefit more youth
  • Setting outcomes for entrepreneurship within the CAP YEI program and working with facilitators, partners and youth to ensure they are met 
  • Review of entrepreneurship curriculum and processes and development of a network of SME labs, youth business clusters, mentor and alumni teams to serve as support and practical training platforms
  •  Provide ideas for business development and market linkages to enable youth to successfully set up and grow businesses
  • Providing regular reports on the programs progress
  • Design and implement alumni and youth and partners events and activities to support growth of the entrepreneurship programs 
  • Coordinating and/or recruiting volunteers and partners needed to deliver the programs
  • Others as may agreed with Supervisor
Required skills and experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and implementing community development programs
  • A proven ability to work with marginalized youth
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills
  • A solid foundation in the fundamentals of entrepreneurship
  • A post-graduate degree or a combination of relevant experiences and related education
  • A proven ability to mentor, coach or train individuals in business concepts, leadership etc
  • Experience in skills training or workshop facilitation
  • The ability to build partnerships and deliver collaborative programming
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Personal commitment to the values and mission of CAP YEI
  • Experience in starting a small business, working within a start-up business or academic training in business methods would be a strong asset.
