General Manager - Operations and Safety

The General Manager Operations and Safety is accountable to the Chief Executive Officer for the operation and safety of all Airports and Airstrips under the management of Kenya Airports Authority. 

Working closely with the General Manager Security as well as other stakeholders including various ministries, regulatory bodies, security and safety agencies, the General Manager Operations and Safety is responsible for overseeing and confirming the implementation of ICAO standards as well as regulations and guidelines from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) in the operations of all KAA airports and airstrips.

Working through the respective Airport Managers reporting to this position, and with stakeholders including passengers, customers, airlines, concessionaires, other service providers, and the respective communities, the incumbent will review the capacity of the current facilities vis-à-vis current and anticipated demands and make recommendations for upgrading and/or enhancement of operational facilities, passenger facilitation, ground and cargo services in order continuously provide exceptional seamless safe and efficient service to passengers and customers and enhance realisation of revenue targets.

The right candidate will have a minimum of 10 years airport management and/or operations and safety experience with at least 6 years’ experience gained in a senior managerial level and a proven track record in commercial airport management, with demonstrated experience in serving a large and complex customer base.

He/she will have a bachelor’s degree in airport management, aviation administration, aviation management, public administration, business administration, or a related field, with relevant certification in airport operations and airport safety. 

Practical working knowledge of an ERP such as SAP is essential. 

A Masters level qualification is desirable.

General Manager Finance 

The General Manager Finance is accountable to the Chief Executive Officer for all financial and fiscal management aspects of the Authorities operations in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, International Public Sector Account

Standards and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the aviation industry.

He/she is responsible for the development of a financial strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and to provide strategic leadership and coordination in the business planning, accounting and budgeting efforts of the organisation as well as drive the development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.

The right candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible working experience with at least 6 years in a senior management /leadership position leading and managing financial responsibilities of a large commercial company (KShs billions / USD $’000 millions); managing significant capital and operational budgets and delivering positive cash flows and pro ts.

He/she will be a CPA (K) with a current practicing certificate, and a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline from a recognised institution of higher learning. 

Practical working knowledge and competence with a financial information system / ERP such as SAP is mandatory. 

A Masters level qualification is desirable.

General Manager - Marketing and Business Development

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager Marketing and Business Development is responsible and accountable for delivering the Authorities revenue targets by building, developing and enhancing the Authorities brand, products and service offerings based on a deep understanding of different consumers and customers’ needs and developing and availing relevant product and service offerings through strategic marketing initiatives.

Additional responsibilities include management of corporate brand communications, strategic market intelligence including analysing global market trends in aviation and giving strong guidance on the way forward for the Authority, developing and executing marketing campaigns, product development & promotion, corporate social responsibility, public relations and sponsorships. 

This is a highly commercial role that is vital to driving the Authorities commercial agenda forward and therefore requires an incumbent with a strong commercial orientation.

The right candidate will have a minimum of 10 years marketing and business development experience with at least 6 years’ experience gained in a senior managerial level in a large commercial company (KShs billions / USD $’000 millions) and a proven track record in marketing, business development, or sales, with demonstrated success in delivering tangible contribution to the organisations revenue and bottom line.

He/she will have a Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related program from a recognised accredited university and a professional certificate in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) or similar institution. 

Practical working knowledge of an ERP such as SAP is essential. 

A Masters level qualification is desirable.

General Manager - Procurement & Logistics 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager Procurement and Logistics is responsible and accountable for managing and coordinating all aspects of procurement, inventory management and logistics; adding value to the activities of the Authority by making sure procurement is timely and based on value for money in terms of quality, price and terms from suppliers and is fully compliant to all relevant public procurement regulations and guidelines, the Authority’s procurement policy, as well as the consistent good commercial and professional practice.

The right candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible working experience with at least 6 years in a senior management / leadership position leading and managing procurement and logistics responsibilities of a large commercial company (KShs billions / USD $’000 millions); managing significant capital and operational procurement budgets and delivering value for money.

He/she will be a graduate Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline from a recognised institution of higher learning, as well as a professional purchasing qualification such as CIPS and be registered with and a have a current Supplies Practitioners License from, the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management. 

Practical working knowledge and competence with purchase management software and/or automated procurement systems, such as SAP is mandatory. 

A Masters level qualification is desirable.

General Manager - Human Resource Development (HRD)
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager HRD is responsible and accountable for planning, directing and executing all human resources strategies, policies and activities, including: talent acquisition and retention; remuneration; employee engagement and labor relations; training and development; organization design and change management to achieve the organizations corporate objectives.

The right candidate will have a minimum of 10 years HR generalist experience with at least 6 years’ experience gained in a senior managerial level and a proven track record in the development and management of the human resource function in a high performing, results-oriented, growth organization.

He/she will have a degree in human resource management or related field with a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management, from an accredited institution of higher learning. 

He/she will be registered with and a have a current Practicing Certificate from, the Institute of Human Resource Management, Kenya. 

Practical working knowledge and competence with human resource information system / ERP such as SAP is mandatory.

General Manager - Projects & Engineering 

The General Manager Projects & Engineering is accountable to the Chief Executive Officer for the master plan, design, development and maintenance of all facilities of Kenya Airports Authority.

The General Manager Projects & Engineering is responsible for managing, planning, developing, implementing and maintaining airport terminals and related capital projects. 


He/she, together with service providers as appropriate, will develop detailed requirements, conceptual designs, cost estimates, schedules and recommendations based on sound business principles for management and Board approval. 

Strict management of vendors, consultants, and third party partners is a key responsibility to ensure benefit and value accrue first to Kenya Airports Authority.

The right candidate will have a minimum of 10 years engineering project management with at least 6 years’ experience gained in a senior managerial level and will have a proven track record of managing and delivering large-scale and multi-year infrastructure and capital projects with various stakeholders, partners and service providers within scope, on time and within budget.

He/she will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field, with relevant certification in project management such as PMP or PRINCE2. Practical working knowledge of an ERP such as SAP is essential. 

A Masters level qualification is desirable.

Airport Manager – Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA)
Reporting to the General Manager Operations and Safety, the Airport Manager JKIA is responsible and accountable for safe and efficient operation of the airport on a daily basis, covering both passenger and cargo hubs. 

The airport manager will ensure all aspects of the airport are fully functioning and compliant with established regulations and standards of customer service. 


He/she will work with employees, service providers and other stakeholders from the commercial sector, government, regulatory authorities, security agencies and the community to provide exceptional seamless safe and efficient service to passengers and customers to enhance realisation of revenue targets and run a pro table operation.

The right candidate will have a minimum of 10 years airport management and/or operations and customer service experience with at least 4 years’ experience gained in a senior managerial level and a proven track record in operations, safety, customer, people and relationship management.

He/she will have a bachelor’s degree in airport management, aviation administration, aviation management, public administration, business administration, or a related field, with relevant certification in airport operations and airport safety. 

Practical working knowledge of an ERP such as SAP is essential.

Vacancies: Qualified Engineers

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), was established in 1991 under the KAA Act, to provide facilitative infrastructure for aviation services between Kenya and the rest of the world. 

The core functions of the Authority are to provide airport infrastructure and facilities and to enhance the safety and security of airports in the country.

To deliver the Kenya Vision 2030 transport sector objectives, KAA is looking to expand and modernise JKIA to include a second runway and an airport city; expand the network for airports and refurbish and upgrade existing Airport

Guided by this mandate, Kenya Airports of Authority is looking to recruit 10 qualified Engineers to from different engineering disciplines and technical specialities, build the capacity of the Project and Engineering department to be deployed at the Head Office and across the networks of airports in Kenya.

The Engineers we are looking for should have a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible working experience in electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, transport, architectural, construction, geotechnical engineering and/or project management.

The successful candidates will be graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Civil / Structural / Geotechnical / Transport / Architectural / Construction Engineering or other related disciplines from an institution of higher learning that is accredited or recognised by the Engineers Board of Kenya.

 In addition, she/he will have a current registration certificate as a Graduate Engineer or Professional Engineer from the Engineers Board of Kenya. Project managers should have project management certification such as PMP or PRINCE2
