Organizational Background: The World Food Programme activities include food assistance for nutrition, livelihoods, relief and emergency school feeding, while also supporting humanitarian air and logistics services, food security coordination and infrastructure rehabilitation projects. 

This position is open to qualified Kenyan candidates only.

Duties and Responsibilities:


Under the direct supervision of the Finance Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:-
  • Verify vendor claims, advances and other receivables and observe appropriate procurement procedures;
  • Ensure that suppliers are paid in a timely manner and in conformance with WFP finance rules and regulations;
  • Assist in compiling information from various sources in order to prepare reports relating to budgets, accounting, finance and statistics;
  • Prepare journal vouchers and update the journal voucher log;
  • Draft routine correspondence and reports related to the unit’s work as required;
  • Provide guidance and on-job training to other support staff;
  • Ensure that journal and payment vouchers are maintained and filed in compliance with WFP standard guidelines;
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimal Qualifications:

Education:
  • Secondary school education. 
  • A Post-secondary certificate related to functional area is required.
Experience:
  • At least four years of progressively responsible work experience in general administrative work, including at least two years in the field of finance, accounting, audit or other related field.
Language:
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English is a requirement.
Knowledge:
  • Experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other WFP standard software packages and systems. 
  • General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing the area of work.
