is Kenya’s largest agricultural export group employing over 12,000 people and
annually exporting over 130 million stems of flowers, 26 million kilos of black
tea and 3 million kilos of tea extract.
The
organization is geographically located in Kericho and Mombasa and works with
over 10,000 tea out growers.
We need a dynamic individual with strong planning & organizing skills, interpersonal & communication skills and a team player to fill the following vacant position in our Kericho based operations.
Project
Manager
Reporting
to Head of Engineering and based at Tea Extracts Kenya, the job holder as part
of the site management team will be responsible for:
- Safe
project operations and to ensure that projects of up to $20m are delivered
timely, cost effectively and meeting the business requirements for
performance.
- Strategic
oversight and supply of performance data and information to the Project
Sponsor and Head of Engineering to enable effective control of the
projects
- Work
with the Head of Procurement / Programme Office in the United Kingdom to
assist with the set up of the required best practice project processes,
procedures, systems and tools to ensure the successful delivery of
projects
The tea extracts business is in a growth phase and investments
in new advanced technologies to improve efficiency and provide new products to
the market are being implemented.
The
Project Manager will need to be integrated into the product development teams
to be able to
translate the trials and research into full scale commercial output under tight time constraints.

The successful candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in managing large complex projects in a food manufacturing or industrial businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide
project management leadership to the project teams;
- Day-to-day
management of the task and completion of project deliverables using agreed
resources, by agreed dates, to agreed quality, within an agreed budget,
and delivered safely;
- Commercial
management of third party contracts to ensure timely delivery of
deliverables;
- Lead
the front end capital and asset planning processes, establish and manage
the project plan including mapping of internal and external dependencies
to provide the facts and data required to allow the business to make
robust investment decisions.
- Coach
the work stream leads to support successful development of project
management
- Ensure
the project complies with relevant regulatory requirements, local and
global standards (Planning / Code / License to Operate as well as Food
Safety; GMP and EHS);
- Identify,
engage and manage stakeholders whilst ensuring effective communications
plans are in place
- Implement
and use an effective projects tracking / reporting process for key
criteria (e.g. time / KPIs / benefits / quality / safety) suitable for
reporting at various management levels;
- Review
of the project portfolio of opportunities to maintain a pipeline for a 3
year plan
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s
degree in Engineering or Food Science from a recognized institution.
- At
least ten years of project management experience in a busy food processing
plant with proven experience of managing projects of such magnitude
- Experience
in ensuring food safety (HACCP etc.) requirements are designed in from the
start.
- Highly
proficient in the use of MS PowerPoint, MS Project, MS Excel, MS Word and
MS Visio.
- Experience
of operating in and managing situations characterized by complexity,
ambiguity and high levels of uncertainty with an ability to map out and
understand complex, highly interdependent issues - to distil simple,
elegant and cost effective solutions;
- Experience
in balancing the delivery of tactical and strategic objectives;
- Experience
in constructively challenging sponsors, stakeholders and budget holders
