Job Title: Global Projects Manager
 
Function: Partnerships and Sales

Location: Nairobi – Kenya with travel to other African countries

Role Purpose: The Global Projects Manager will ensure the successful implementation of KickStart International’s projects in all countries KickStart is implementing donor funded projects through:
  • Efficient management of projects schedules and budgets (in liaison with finance), by ensuring that projects outputs are delivered to the expected level of quality.
  • Managing relationships with stakeholders within the organization and external (where applicable) and taking corrective action where necessary to ensure the project outcomes and impacts are achieved.
  • Be responsible to design and plan for new projects and report on existing projects both internally and externally to donors through the fundraising team.

  • Reports to:  Director, Programmes and Partnerships- Africa
  • Staff directly reporting to this post: None
  • Works with: All Directors, Regional Heads of Partnerships and Sales Managers, Country Managers, Fundraising team, Finance teams and other Global position heads.   
Overall Responsibilities
 
Projects Management
  • He/she will be responsible to manage the relationships with key internal stakeholders of the projects including program heads, country managers, fundraising, finance etc in order to ensure the successful achievement of projects outcomes.
  • Monitoring and assessment of projects- will develop appropriate monitoring tools and systems for each project and manage the monitoring of outputs, outcomes and impacts as per the project expected deliverables and schedules.  
  • Coordinate periodic reviews and evaluation of projects implementation, effectiveness, impacts and sustainability.
  • Collate information and or data periodically on different projects globally to assess KickStart International’s key performance Indicators that measure the achievement of the donor funded projects expectations.
  • Initiate or arrange for meetings with relevant implementers to discuss remedial measures for any project lagging behind in achieving its goals on timely basis.
Projects Development
  • Contribute to the development of new projects and lead on the development of new projects plans and budgets.
  • Contribute to the development of project concept notes and applications for funding under the direction of the fundraising team in collaboration with the project managers
  • Develop partnerships with government, NGOs and other stakeholders when necessary in order to create opportunities for new project partnerships and joint fundraising.
Projects Strategic / operational planning
  • Contribute to the development of KickStart’s global projects management strategies in line with KickStart’s strategic plan and projects management improvement.
Projects Reporting
  • Design tools to track specific indicators for Donor Funded Projects. Track performance to ensure project activities are being met in a timely manner.
  • Report regularly on the progress of projects in the countries KickStart has donor funded projects, documenting all lessons learnt, challenges, risks and issues and contribute to the periodic reporting process to the fundraising team under the direction of the Director Programmes.
  • Propose strategic solutions on effective project management based on the challenges, risks and issues documented.
  • Manage the process of preparing projects progress reports for donors as per the deadlines given by different donors.
Projects Budget monitoring / management
  • Work with the Budgets and Grants Finance Manager and in liaison with the Finance Director to monitor projects budget by providing relevant data on the project budget requirements based on activity implementation. 
  • Work with the Finance team to manage, monitor and evaluate the implementation of project budgets in the areas of implementation; reforecasting projects budgets as required in order to keep expenditures against budget on track in response to challenges in implementation.
To perform any other duties that may be assigned to him/her.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in development studies, Project Management or any relevant field
  • At least 7 years’ experience delivering projects with evidence of managing projects at global scale- in multiple countries
  • Knowledge of projects monitoring and evaluation tools and practices
Skills and Behaviours
  • Intermediate skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications including proficient use of Microsoft Excel
  • Willingness to travel regularly, and good skills in interacting with the community
  • Excellent written English and report writing skills is a must
  • Excellent personal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-country, multi-cultural environment.

Vacant Position: Head of Partnerships & Sales – Southern Africa
 
KickStart International prides itself in being an award-winning, global nonprofit social enterprise that develops and mass- markets low-cost irrigation solutions that are bought by thousands of small-holder farmers in developing countries and used to increase their income by up to a factor of ten, enabling them to lift themselves sustainably out of poverty. 
 
Function: Partnership and Sales

Location: Harare, Zimbabwe or Nairobi, Kenya depending on the Nationality of the successful candidate
 

Role Purpose: The Head of Partnerships & Sales, Southern Africa Hub will be responsible for developing, expanding, and reporting on our program in Southern Africa hub which include the following countries:- Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi and DRC. 

He/she is also responsible for managing our program in these countries and our staff in the Region. 

These activities support the primary goal of getting people out of poverty in the Region by promoting the sales and usage of KickStart’s MoneyMaker branded irrigation pumps.

Scope of Role:
 
 
Reports to:  Director, Global Institutional Partnerships based in KickStart’s Africa Office in Nairobi
 
Staff directly reporting to this post: Country Managers in the Southern African hub countries 
 
Works with: Other Directors and support teams 

Nature and Scope:
 
The Head of Partnerships & Sales will:
  • Perform the due-diligence to understand the market potential and opportunities for MoneyMaker products in Southern Africa.
  • Create the market development and sales plans for specific-countries in Southern Africa.  Lead and manage the implementation of the plan to ensure growth in sales, social impacts, market share, and profitability in the Region.  This will be done primarily through:
1.    The proper selection, development and management of distributor network in each country.
2.    Support and develop the Identification of new and existing partners in the NGO world and stakeholders that will boost the development of smallholder irrigation in the Region.
  • Recruit, manage, coach, and develop capacity of country Sales representatives in the Region to develop and promote MoneyMaker irrigation pumps.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of KickStart’s activities, finances and social impacts

Principal Accountabilities
  • Responsible for setting a scalable and sustainable growth model for KickStart in Southern Africa.
  • Optimize KickStart economic sustainability in the Region and support fundraising activities.
  • Regular market assessment and pro-active development of country specific sales and marketing plans with Country Sales Representatives and distributors to maximize sales and impacts in the region.  This includes sales plans, pricing policies, and promotional plans for each country.
  • Actively promote products through product demonstrations, product support and training of distributors, customers and influencers.
  • Actively manage customer and distributor accounts and collect outstanding receivables.
  • Develop and manage the operations budget for this program and provide monthly updated sales forecast.
  • Program design and implementation using tactical marketing initiatives.
  • Establish an annual and long term Business Plan.
  • Open country programs and/or B2B programs in a variety of countries and design and implement the relevant model for each country.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and support to the staff in other countries in the region.
  • Prepare monthly work plans and monthly reports.
  • Compile and collect monthly end user data for impact monitoring.
  • Perform any other official duties within the key performing criteria as may be assigned to you.
Qualifications and Experience
  • 7 plus years of sales experience. Both private and public sector experience preferred.
  • Bachelor degree required.  MBA preferred.
  • People Management Experience – managing, mentoring, developing people and a high performing team.
  • Financial management experience – develop and manage operating plans and budgets
Skills and Behaviours
  • Excellent understanding of the agricultural market in the region preferred
