Longhorn Publishers, a leading rm with a strong presence in the Eastern Africa region whose core business is publishing and distributing of educational and leisure publications, wishes to recruit dynamic and results- oriented individuals to ll the following posts:

 

Job Titles: Editor Creative Works and Trade Books (One post)
 
Job Summary: Th e Editor will manage book projects by initiating authorship, directing the design process, editing to completion and approving sample copy for bulk delivery. 

She/he will ensure that products are in line with the Company’s strategy and meet thresholds in content, layout, brand quality and speed to market.


Key Responsibilities
  • Source and induct authors and external readers to facilitate the development and submission of up- to-date manuscripts.
  • Review and evaluate manuscripts to determine if they re ect current interests of the market and whether they satisfy the Company’s publishing requirements.
  • Assume overall responsibility for substantive and copyediting of publications in the Creative and Trade Book section.
  • Develop content for product extension.
  • Prepare and maintain production status reports on pending and in-process publications.
  • Participate in budget preparation for resource allocation and control.
  • Establish the source of copyrighted materials and prepare acknowledgement for illustrations and text used to meet acquisition requirements.
  • Negotiate the selling and buying of rights.
  • Coordinate schedules with suppliers and in-house personnel to meet agreed production schedules.
  • Prepare project proposals for presentation to the Editorial Committee or Management.
Qualifi cations/Competencies
  • Bachelor of Education or Arts degree with a major in English and Literature
  • A post graduate diploma in Mass Communication would be an added advantage
  • At least 2 years experience as an editor in a book-publishing environment.
  • Excellent writing, communication, negotiation and leadership skills
  • Working knowledge of digital publishing will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to appreciate and critic literary works of all genres.
  • Teaching experience with a record of consistent performance will be an added advantage.
Job Title: Editor Sciences – Physics and Chemistry (One post)
 
Job Description: Th e Editor will manage book projects by initiating authorship, directing the design process, editing to completion and approving sample copy for bulk delivery. 

She/he will ensure that products are in line with the Company’s Strategy and meet thresholds in content, house style, brand quality and speed to market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Source and induct authors and external readers to facilitate the development and submission of up- to-date manuscripts.
  • Evaluate manuscripts to determine if they re ect current interests of the market and whether they satisfy the Company’s publishing requirements.
  • Assume overall responsibility for copyediting and production of publications in Physics and Chemistry.
  • Prepare and maintain production status reports on pending and in-process publications.
  • Participate in budget preparation for resource allocation and control.
  • Establish the source of copyrighted materials and prepare acknowledgement for illustrations and text used to meet acquisition requirements.
  • Coordinate schedules with suppliers and in-house personnel to meet agreed production schedules.
  • Prepare and innovate project proposals for presentation to the editorial meeting and approval by management.
Quali fications / Competencies
  • Bachelor of Education degree in Physics and Chemistry
  • 3 years teaching experience or at least 2 years in editing.
  • A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • A team player with strong communication, presentation, analytical and organisation skills.
  • Working knowledge digital publishing will be necessary.
