University Librarian 
 
Job Summary: The University librarian provides leadership to ensure the Library excels in effectively supporting teaching, learning and research at Africa Nazarene University. 


The University Librarian is responsible for the overall administration, human resource management and budget for the Africa Nazarene University Library and the Nairobi CBD Campus Library, and for the management and policy development for library services, collections and facilities. 
   
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
 
The University Librarian will be accountable to the Vice-Chancellor for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Overall administration and management of University Library services to ensure integrated learning environment and the engagement of students, faculty and staff.
  • Formulating, developing and implementing the library policy
  • Ensuring equitable access to information resources, services, and systems in physical or virtual environments at Main campus, Nairobi CBD Campus and at all Regional campuses through lending, reference and referral services and e-resource.
  • Ensuring adequate library and research resources are available to meet faculty and student needs within budget allocation.
  • Periodically determine reading needs of faculty, students and other stakeholders by working closely with the Faculty in order to develop relevant collection, plan book acquisition programs of the library and select books for order in all disciplines.
  • Ensure provision of bibliographical guidance to visiting and research scholars of the university.
  • Ensure availability of reading facilities and conducive environment to university library users/patrons.
  • Involvement in University Curriculum Development
  • Ensures timely collection of reading material and daily stock management
  • Teaching Information Literacy Skills to the library users/patrons
  • Budgeting and management of library budget.
  • Representing ANU in Kenya University Librarians Committee
  • Overall management of library staff, determining of Training needs for growth and professional service delivery and conduct performance reviews/appraisals.
  • Produces periodic reports for daily and strategic decisions.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time.
Minimum Requirements
 
The incumbent must have:
  • A PhD in library and information science from a recognized university or equivalent. 
  • A minimum of 3 years as Deputy Librarian
  • Published a minimum of three articles in peer reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of success in some major non-teaching responsibility at the university or reputable organisations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong communication skills
  • Ability to provide and maintain the highest standards of service for all customers/clients.

Dean of Students

Job Summary:
 The office of The Dean of students is generally responsible for serving as a point of information for students and responding to students' needs. 


He/she will be responsible for planning and directing university activities related to student services and campus life to ensure conducive atmosphere for study. 

The Dean will handle among others incoming (new) students’ orientation, students’ welfare, housing and cleanliness, healthy human relationships among students, social programs for students, sports and games, mentoring and leadership, counselling services, office budget, students’ conduct and discipline, Students’ Council among other students’ activities. 

Duties and Responsibilities
 
The Dean of Students will be accountable to the Vice Chancellor for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Planning and directing university activities related to student services and campus life to ensure conducive atmosphere for study.
  • Plan and direct incoming students orientation program to ensure smooth settling to residential life, study and university life in general.
  • Co-ordinate and supervision of student activities and programs in the university and its campuses in liaison with campus coordinators, heads of departments/chairs and Student Council.
  • Co-ordinate matters concerning student welfare
  • In liaison with relevant departments of the university, co-ordinate matters concerning student conduct and discipline and advise the Vice Chancellor.
  • Ensure that a healthy human relationship exists among the students and that an atmosphere conducive to study is maintained.
  • Co-ordinate the student counselling and psychological services in liaison with the university counsellors.
  • Oversee housing, cleanliness and the well-being of student hostels and maintain an active interest in other housekeeping matters.
  • In liaison with Finance Office, manage the Dean of Students Office budget and develop policies regarding student life program development.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Vice-Chancellor or any other authorized officer.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants must be holders of a PhD degree from a recognized University.
  • He/she must have at least four (4) years working experience working with students or administrative experience in positions of responsibility dealing with needs of large communities and must be computer proficient, or
  • Holder of Msc/MA degree or equivalent university professional qualification from a recognized university with eight (8) years’ experience working with students or  administrative experience in positions of responsibility dealing with needs of large communities and must be computer proficient.
  • The ideal candidate should be conversant with the running of students’ affairs in a University.
  • Be of high ethical standards, integrity and professionalism.
  • Good inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Team player who can work with minimum supervision.
