The American Friends Service
Committee (AFSC) is a Quaker organization that promotes lasting peace with justice,
as a practical expression of faith in action.
We are looking for a Regional Intern – Research for
seven months.
Job Summary: The incumbent will work in Africa Regional office
to undertake research, for AFSC Africa regional office, relating to and within
the Shared Security Framework.
S/He will be responsible for:
- Carrying out both desktop research and field
interviews to generate the relevant data required;
- Gathering data and reporting Africa progress
to RD on implementation of shared security across Africa;
- Providing monthly report with update on the
Africa conflict analysis that inform implementation on shared security
themes;
- Compiling the research findings,
recommendations and disseminating the same to the Africa leadership team;
- Making research schedules to monitor the
activities under shared security plan as implemented by the team;
- Writing case studies and documentaries on
agreed themes;
Qualifications:
- Post graduate in relevant subject or first
degree and some relevant experience (preferably in communication, conflict
and peace studies or other relevant social sciences).
Skills and Competences:
- Significant skills and experience in research
with presentations using technical visual aids;
- Knowledge and experience of Africa, especially
one or more of the following countries – Kenya, Zimbabwe, Burundi,
Somalia;
- Computer skills, data collection and analysis,
statistical computer software programs, communications and advocacy skills
an added advantage;
- Commitment to Quaker values, testimonies,
principles and philosophy of American Friends Service Committee
