Job Title: Major Projects Manager

Probationary Period: 3 months
 
Contract Type: 2 years with possible extension

Job Framework: Marie Stopes Kenya (MSK) has been a pioneer in the field of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services in Kenya for the last 30 years. 

In line with our mission and vision, MSK continues to deliver high quality SRH services through multiple service delivery channels that include a network of MSK clinics, mobile outreach teams, dedicated MSK call centre, social marketing and a network of private providers within the AMUA social franchise. 

The Major Projects Manager will directly manage the Choice for Change and ACCESS grants, two major projects which make up a significant part of MSK’s income. 

In the future, additional grants may be added to the manager’s portfolio.

They report to the Director of Programme Operations and are part of the Programme Operations Department. 

The strategic purpose of the Programme Operations Department is to ensure excellent delivery of all MSK programme activities and the development and funding of new work.

The Manager Project Manager will assist with the administration and day to day coordination of the project team. 

They will be a resource to the regional coordinators and other project staff, assisting in the smooth running of the project and achievement of its targets. 

The primary responsibility of this role is to further our Goal: THE PREVENTION OF UNWANTED BIRTHS and its mission of ensuring the individual’s right to: CHILDREN BY CHOICE NOT CHANCE

Key Responsibilities and Measures

This position has the following key responsibilities:
1.    Lead the successful delivery of MSK’s major projects through multiple service delivery channels
2.    Support with monitoring and reporting on program progress against set Key Performance Indicator (KPIs)

1. Lead the successful delivery of MSK’s major projects through multiple service delivery channels

The activities include:
  • Lead on all aspects of project implementation, in partnership with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Ensure all costs are correctly coded and work with others to address under and overspends
  • Together with the Donor Compliance Advisor, lead participatory budget forecasting sessions to
  • Monitor and proactively ensure adherence to workplans, budgets and targets
  • Engage at the central and county level to facilitate successful implementation of project activities
  • Support donor visits as required
  • Actively coordinate and participate in consortium meetings, during ASRH TWG meetings, internal TWGs meetings
  • Actively coordinate with partners of the consortium working with CIFF funds
  • Support relevant communication with consortium partners, the donor (CIFF) and others as required
  • Support engagement with national and county governments
  • Work closely with other ASRH partners to ensure better synergy and maximise on impact

  • Project targets achieved
  • Projects spent fully according to budget and budget changes communicated in good time
  • Project staff, private providers and others receive the correct funds in a timely manner
  • All project expenses correctly coded
  • Donor and partner visits are successful
2. Support with monitoring and reporting on program progress against set Key Performance Indicator (KPIs)
 
The activities include:
  • Develop and compile reports and make presentations on major project activities across MSK service delivery channels progress on a regular basis to MSK’s management team including relevant external reporting
  • Support the dissemination of ASRH focused routine program monitoring and results on various operational research across MSK service delivery channels and regions both internally and externally
  • Work with external evaluation team

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor in relevant subject, Masters preferred
Skills / Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience working in leading major, donor funded health projects in Kenya
  • Financially literate with experience managing multimillion USD budgets
  • Experience managing participatory budget forecasting forcast exercises 
  • Able to solve problems and respond to crises with grace and creativity
  • Able to manage a heavy and fluxuating workload
  • Proven experience developing reports for donors and external audiences
  • Experience in managing teams
  • Strong I.T skills
  • Proven experience in community promotion
