The Internship Opportunity: COECSA is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic,
and self-driven person with a keen interest in the health sector to join a team
of professionals to build an institution that will support the above functions
in the region.
You must be dynamic, be able to work
in a team environment and be a catalyst for peer learning on key issues within
the organization.
You must be able to keep yourself and
the organization abreast with changing sector knowledge and best practices.
Indicative Tasks and Expected Outputs
Indicative Tasks and Responsibilities
Working closely with other College
staff at the Secretariat, the Intern will be expected to undertake the
following tasks satisfactorily:
1. Stakeholder Communication
Management
- Website management – ensure that the
organization website, Congress website and Journal portal are regularly
updated;
- Manage COECSA’s presence on all social media
platforms – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YOF blog etc;
- Monitor communication on the info@coecsa.org
email address and direct any queries to relevant persons for action;
- Ensure regular and proper communication to all
stakeholders, as and when need be;
- Explore ways of promoting COECSA’s visibility
among partners and the public at large.
2. Membership Management
- Maintain an updated membership register
complete with the members’ contacts, place of practice and physical
address;
- Ensure proper and regular communication to all
members;
- Liaise with country chapters to create
awareness on the benefits of COECSA membership and recruit more
ophthalmologists and mid-level eye care workers to become members;
- Follow up on payment of annual subscription
fees;
- Assist in organizing local and regional
activities for members i.e. CMEs, symposia etc
- Spearhead a recruitment drive for members into
the various Communities of Practice (CoP) and maintain a record of members
in each CoP;
- Conduct monthly membership surveys to evaluate
members’ satisfaction and identify areas of improvement.
3. Programme Support
- Assist in planning project activities in close
liaison with the officers in charge of the various projects;
- Assist with follow-up of beneficiaries under
various projects for post-activity support, reporting and compilation of
success stories;
- Assist in the publication and dissemination of
project communication materials including the COECSA journal and
newsletter.
4. Management of the online CPD
portal;
- Promote the CPD portal to all members;
- Assist members with portal registration and
other related queries, where need be;
- Assist in content development (including video
recording and editing) for CPDs and publish the content on the COECSA
online CPD portal;
- Follow up with country chapters to provide
their CPD calendars and submit the CPD presentations post-activity for
uploading on the portal;
- Liaise with organizations (such as ICO, ONE
network, Future Learn among others) that provide open-access resources for
ophthalmology to permit the use of their resources on the COECSA CPD the
portal.
5. Administrative Support
- Assist with booking flights, airport transfers
and other logistics for College events;
- Undertake other office administrative duties
as assigned from time to time;
- Provide draft weekly and monthly reports for
all activities undertaken.
Expected Outputs
The intern will be evaluated against
the outputs below which are in line with the tasks stipulated above:
- An updated membership register, complete with
the members’ contacts, place of practice and physical address
- Over 95% members pay up their annual
subscription fees
- Regular (weekly, monthly and quarterly)
communication to members on College activities and publications (Journal
and newsletter)
- Relevant content uploaded on the online CPD
portal
- A list of members regularly accessing CPDs via
the COECSA CPD portal
- Regular updates of the COECSA social media
platforms and website with relevant and approved content
- Timely publication and dissemination of the
COECSA journal and newsletter
- Weekly and monthly reports of activities undertaken
Key Skills Required
- Degree in communication, community
development, social work or any other relevant field
- Proficiency in written and verbal English
- Professionalism and adherence to deadlines
- Excellent skills in editing and Proof-reading
- Proficiency in using Ms. Word, Excel and
PowerPoint
Other desired skills
- Skills in social media management, networking
or blogging
- Website management skills
- Experience in video recording and editing is
an added advantage
- Must be willing to start immediately
Duration: 3 months (with possible extension based on
performance)
Remuneration: A modest allowance transport and lunch will be provided on a monthly basis.
