HFH Kenya is recruiting appropriate candidates following its just completed strategic plan.

This vacancy announcement is for the positions of Advocacy Specialist and Human Resources and Administration Manager to strengthen our work in Kenya and be part of the team that takes our work on housing to the next level.

1) Advocacy Specialist 


Ref: ADV/12/15
 
Reporting to the Head of Programs, the incumbent will be based in Nairobi and will primarily be responsible for developing and implementing the advocacy strategy for the organization, which will include
 
i) Developing and influencing housing strategies at national and local county level and providing leadership.
 
ii) Play an active role in supporting in representing HFHK in housing forums in the country.
 
iii) Be responsible for providing support in a diverse range of advocacy activities including the Habitat Solid Ground Global Campaign on Land and Gender, coalition building and advocating for housing rights.

This is a new post for Habitat in Kenya.

The post aims to deliver the very highest standards in Advocacy and management. 

The post holder is primarily responsible for providing leadership and growth of Advocacy.
 
Qualifications & Experience
  • A Bachelors degree in fields relevant to development assistance, such as International Development, Politics, International Relations and social sciences. A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • In-depth understanding of housing issues including WASH and community development.
  • Ability to train and support program staff in advocacy and policy matters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, an ability to communicate complex information clearly in writing and oral presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to build networks with diverse partners in pursuit of common goals.
  • Ability to think strategically, to analyze complex information and offer creative, practical and high impact solutions. 
  • Excellent research and information management skills.
  • Ability to analyze policy proposals including drafting in legislative language.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the housing, microfinance and WASH sectors
  • At least 7 years of middle level progressive working experience in a busy development environment in an NGO, microfinance institution or other development sectors.
  • Strong background in analysis and evaluation of development assistance programs.
  • Experience in the conception, design, research and management of advocacy strategies and initiatives
  • Track record of influencing policy at national level and comfort communicating with government officials.
  • Substantial experience of influencing and negotiation, including an ability to deal with people at all levels with tact and diplomacy.
  • Extensive experience in promotional and advocacy work influencing a wide range of audiences in policy change and implementation.
  • Proven competence in report writing and communicative reports using IT and communication techniques
2) HR and Administration Manager 
(Ref HRM/12/15)

Reporting to the Country Director, the HRA Manager will be responsible for providing strategic and operational lead for the Human Resource function of the organization including

i) Ensuring that there is a conducive working environment, a skilled and motivated workforce that facilitates the achievement of the organization’s objectives and operational compliance.

ii) Lead in building strong professional relationships with management teams and with employees.
 
iii) Supporting transition and change management, working closely with Senior Management and staff to ensure the achievement of business plans and KPIs as well as implementing resourcing, learning and development, compensation, performance management and retention strategies.

This is a new post for Habitat in Kenya. 

The post holder is primarily responsible for providing leadership to support growth of the HR support.

Qualifications & Experience
  • A Bachelors degree in HR Management, Business Administration or Social Sciences.
  • Be a registered member of recognized and related professional bodies
  • Must have proven strong HR systems and process skills
  • Highly developed communication skills both written and verbal in order to establish effective relationships with a wide variety of internal and external audiences, including at a geographical distance.
  • Resourcefulness and creativity in order to develop the department and ensure effective support to line management.
  • Proven experience of designing, delivering and implementing a wide range of effective HR policies, procedures and projects
  • Experience in capacity building and setting measurable performance targets for staff development.
  • Experience in advising managers on a wide range of HR issues and topics
  • Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and respect local culture.
  • Previous experience of delivering HR services preferably in an NGO
  • Proven interpersonal skills and experience in HR applications
