Higher Education Loans Board is a state corporation whose mandate is to source funds and provide loans, scholarships and bursaries to Kenyans studying in recognised institutions of higher learning. 

A vacancy has arisen for the position of Assistant Internal Auditor.

HELB is looking for highly competent, passionate, dedicated and self-driven individual of high integrity who is able to demonstrate skills and competence to fill the position. 

The Position: Reporting to the Internal Auditor, the Assistant Internal Auditor will conduct various types of audits and reviews in accordance with accepted professional auditing standards to promote effective internal controls, efficiency of the policies and procedures, review the reliability and integrity of financial and operational information, review the means of safeguarding assets and verify their existence and to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.

The Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Preparation and implementation of annual risk based audit plans;
  • Review and audit of compliance with policies, plans, procedures, laws, and regulation;
  • Review and audit of the accomplishment of established objectives and goals for operations and programmes and whether the operations and programmes are being carried out as planned;
  • Preparation of audit working papers;
  • Drafting of audit reports;
  • Ensuring up to date Internal Audit ISO procedures;
  • Assist in developing an enterprise risk management and risk assessment programs and promoting their implementation;
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly summary activity reports to the Audit Committee of the Board meetings;
  • Assisting external auditors as required;
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
  • A holder of bachelor’ degree in one of these fields: Accounting, Finance, Audit, Economics, Business Administration or any other business related field,
  • CPA Part II or equivalent qualification,
  • Possession of CISA or CIA or CFE will be an added advantage,
  • Proficiency in TeamMate and IDEA,
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite,
  • At least two (2) years of experience in audit,
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Good Interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work with deadlines and without close supervision; and
  • Quick learner and adaptability.
