Our client, a multinational pharmaceutical company that specializes in the development and marketing of drugs for use in human medicine is seeking to recruit an Accountant. 

The ideal candidate will be required to provide accountancy support to the regional office in Kenya, and coordinate with the sub-regional (Lagos and Dakar) and META (Middle East Turkey and Africa) offices

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Understand the financial reporting structure. 
  • Support monthly accounting, reporting, financial variance analysis, budget /forecasting exercises. 
  • Determine routine entries needed in monthly close.
  • Complete monthly accounting, reporting, and variance analysis and interpret variances. 
  • Establish and maintain supplier accounts
  • Process supplier invoices and timely payment
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly bank statements
  • Issue cheques for all accounts due
  • Establish and maintain cash controls
  • Maintain the purchase order system
  • Ensure security for all credit cards and verify charges
  • Determine non-recurring entries needed in monthly close.
  • Support budget / forecasting exercises.
  • Ability to summarise and present Departmental Overheads, confirming accuracy of all cost allocations.
  • Ability to work closely with Share Financial Services.
  • Ability to develop and use available technology for monthly reporting purposes.
  • Develop budgets/forecasts, monitor actuals vs. forecasts, and or actuals vs budget and communicate issues to Finance. 
  • Establish department deliverables and timelines to meet local reporting calendar
  • Creates/improves models and spreadsheets. 
  • Consistently adheres to and enforces all corporate policies and procedures
  • Document, communicate and implement processes and procedures
  • Maintain the computerized accounting system
  • Maintain financial files and records
  • Preparation and monitoring of the payroll system.
  • Ensuring the company finances are accurate and up to date.
  • Paying staff and expenses reimbursements in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Ensuring that vendors and suppliers are paid within established time limits.
  • Work closely with the tax consultants and auditors to fulfill company’s tax obligations.
  • Assist with the annual audit
  • Leading or assisting in any other business related assignments as allotted from time to time.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance or any other related disciplines from a recognized institution and CPA (K)/ACCA,
  • At least have 4 – 6 years progressively responsible finance experience at the national or international level, knowledge of computers and office software packages.

  • Good communication skills with all levels of management.
  • Ability to manage complexity and tight/multiple deadlines.
  • Must have fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Must be prepared to travel within territories in SSA or Middle East.
