Project Manager Job in Nairobi, Kenya

Our Client is an international foundation engaged in development cooperation. 

The foundation is looking for a Project Manager for one of its established projects in East Africa coded ‘financial services East Africa. 

The project aims at pushing the financial services frontier further down the poverty line thereby enabling the poor (especially the smallholder farmers and micro entrepreneurs) access relevant, inclusive and affordable financial services in order for them to diversity their income streams as well as create employment. 

The project works with local smallholder farmers and the micro entrepreneurs. 


The Foundation hence is looking for a highly experienced motivated, dynamic, and exceptional individual to fill the position of:

Project Manager 

Duty station: Nairobi with 40% travel within East Africa Region

Key Responsibilities

The project manager will be responsible for the management, coordination and implementation of the financial services project in line with approved project proposals, budgets and within agreed time frames. 

He/she will maintain effective relationships with implementing/operational partners, local leaders, communities and other stakeholders to ensure that the project runs smoothly. 

The Manager shall be responsible for reviewing project budgets needs in line with the agreed project plans, in collaboration with the Regional program Manager & Country Director and Program Accountant and ensure that the project expenditures are in line with the agreed budgets and with donor requirements. 

In addition, he/she will Monitor the progress of financial services project activities as per work plan and ensure compliance with project design and adherence to schedules as well as ensure that resources are used appropriately and efficiently he/she will ensure project monitoring systems are adhered to and timely preparation and submission of project status reports as may be required by the overall Program Manager.

 In addition, he/she shall represent the organization on all appropriate forums within the project area, including all related stakeholders groups
 
Required Qualifications and Experience
 
The organization is looking for dynamic, motivated, experienced and exceptional Tanzanian professional with the following:
 
Skills and Abilities
  • High level of critical thinking and decision making
  • Strong management skills in all aspects (i.e. project, human resources and financial management.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in using contemporary monitoring and results measurement (e.g. DCED standards)
  • Excellent proposal and reports writing skills.
  • Proven accomplishment in budget development and administration.
  • Proficient with common computer programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and people’s management skill and uphold values of a professionalism such as integrity, transparency and accountability
  • Good command for English and Swahili languages with ability to write internationally acceptable reports and proposals.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies, Microfinance, Finance or any related training
  • Minimum 6 years’ of (middle level management and above) experience in managing development projects in non for profit organization targeting rural farmers, marginalized groups and micro entrepreneurs
  • Extensive knowledge in the financial services sector especially in promotion of sustainable microfinance through to the cooperative model, savings group models, commercial microfinance organizations/bank , Microfinance institutions
  • Deep understanding of major trends in the financial sector, regulations and innovations
