Vacancy: Project Assistant

Childline Kenya (CLK) is a National Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), working in Kenya to promote a culture of child rights and child protection. 

Childline works in partnership with the Government of Kenya through the Department of Children Services to manage the Children Helpline 116 in Kenya. 

The Helpline provides a nation-wide 24-hours toll-free service for children and links them to a nation-wide network of child protective services which include the police, hospitals, counselors, legal aid, safe shelter etc.

Childline Kenya is a consortium partner in the five (5) year USAID-funded ‘Support for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nairobi and Coast Counties of Kenya’led by Plan International.

Childline’s contribution in this project will be to:
  • Promote the Child Helpline service in the target communities, and conduct awareness raising about the role and usefulness of the helpline.
  • Strengthen referrals and linkages to essential services for OVC affected by HIV & AIDS by building the capacity of service providers in other sectors on child protection.
  • Strengthen coordination of the referral process for child protection and OVC care across community stakeholders both at the county and sub-county levels.
Childline Kenya is looking for a dynamic Kenyan for the position of Project Assistant to be based in Mombasa and Nairobi. 

The person must be able to both work in a team and alone with minimal supervision; passionate and committed to upholding and promoting the rights of children, as well as human rights in general

Reporting to the Program Coordinator- Outreach, the person will have the following core functions;
  • Directly responsible for planning and implementation of the project activities
  • Manage and control program expenditure within the agreed budget lines
  • Prepare and timely submit monthly, quarterly and annual project implementation reports
  • Coordinate training workshops and other stakeholders capacity development activities related to this project
  • Conduct monitoring and follow up of planned project activities
  • Attend stakeholders meetings related to this project
  • Act as a liaison person between the CLK and the project partners to ensure seamless communication and updates between implementation and program development
  • Document results and lessons learnt to ensure the continuing development of all CLK programmes.
Qualifications, skills and experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Sociology, Social work or related fields
  • Hands-on experience of at least 3 years in community development with special focus on child protection or child rights programming
  • Demonstrate project management experience and recent experience with USAID projects
  • Demonstrated experience in program implementation with 95% and above completion rate
  • Good understanding of child rights as well as policy issues on children’s rights and welfare
  • A certified Trainer of Trainers (TOT), with participatory training experience
  • Excellent skills in report writing, M&E and Grants Managements
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili languages
  • Experience in partnership building will be an added advantage
