Vacancy: Program Officer – Nutrition

Helen Keller International (HKI) works to save the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. 

HKI currently conducts programs in 21 countries in Africa and Asia as well as in the United States. 

To accomplish its work, HKI builds the capacity of local governmental, civil society and private sector systems and infrastructure to deliver effective preventative and curative services for nutrition, eye health and neglected tropical diseases. 

We are looking to recruit a Program Officer to be based in Coastal Region to implement HKI’s nutrition program in the relevant counties.  

The Position:
 The Program Officer - Nutrition will be responsible for delivery of the nutrition program in the Coastal Region with the office based in Kwale County. 

The Program Officer reports to the Program Coordinator – Nutrition based in Nairobi. 

The Program Officer will work in partnership with officials from the Ministry of Health, UNICEF and other development partners to implement HKI supported nutrition programs.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain relationship with county stakeholders and partners in the on behalf of HKI.
  • Advocate with appropriate government officials and partners for continued support to improve child survival nutrition interventions.
  • Assist and support the development of health system at county and sub county levels on VAS and deworming.
  • With partners improve awareness of Vitamin A as a child survival intervention in the community and mobilise caregivers to take their children for Vitamin A supplementation and deworming.
  • Carry out and document routine Monitoring of program activities carried out by Min. of Health and other partners.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual reports, periodic progress reports, program statistics and other materials that may be required.
Requirements
  • College/University Degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Health Management or related field with proven experience in implementing nutrition programs.
  • At least three years of experience with INGO, NGO or development agencies.
  • Good knowledge of Kenya government policies and systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working with the devolved units- County departments of health
  • Effective planning and organizations skills.
  • Effective Coaching skills for health workers and the government partners
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili and good report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience participating and contributing to a productive team environment.
  • Knowledge of computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Outlook.
