Position Title: Program Coordinator, Biomedical Engineering Program
Department: AIHA/Kenya, HIV/AIDS Twinning Center
Location: Nairobi
Reports to: Director of HIV/AIDS Twinning Center
Based out of Nairobi, the P.C. will
be working as AIHA’s site-level program coordinator overseeing implementation
of its activities with its Kenyan partners. The P.C. will work in collaboration
with other PEPFAR-funded partners, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other
national stakeholders.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Oversee on-the-ground implementation of AIHA’s
biomedical engineering technician (BMET) training program in Kenya
(Nairobi and Nyanza Province)
- Provide BMET technical assistance through
trainings, mentoring and support to Kenyan partners
- Work to build the BMET capacity of the Nairobi
and Nyanza province county BMET workshops under the National Public Health
Laboratory Services (NPHLS)
- Coordinate trainings alongside US-based
resource partners
- Work with AIHA/HQ staff, US and Kenyan
partners to develop and maintain program work plans, making changes and
updates as appropriate
- Assist partners with the development, editing,
finalization, and packaging of program curriculum, reports and materials
- Maintain a close collaborative working
relationship with other PEPFAR implementing partners and stakeholders including
MOH, private sector, associations, regulatory and training partners
- Oversee program monitoring and evaluation
(M&E) activities to ensure data is properly captured and reported
- Represent AIHA at U.S. Government implementing
partner (IP) meetings
- Represent AIHA at CDC quarterly review
meetings to present project progress reports
- Schedule, coordinate, and participate in
program trainings and meetings
- Participate in the National Equipment
Calibration and Maintenance Center technical working group (TWG) and
provide technical inputs
- Serve as an information source on program
policies, procedures, and administration guidelines
- Complete other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- BSc. In Medical Engineering or a BSc. in
Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a background in medical
engineering with a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant work experience,
or a diploma in Medical Engineering with at least five (5) years’ relevant
work experience; BMET training experience required
- Proven ability to implement multidimensional
projects with a focus on BMET trainings in regards to HIV-related
laboratory equipment
- Experience in program management and support
procedures
- Experience with U.S. Government donor
compliance and reporting
- Ability to develop and maintain close
relationships with various stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively with diverse
coworkers and project participants
- Self-starter and strong multi-tasking and
problem solving skills
- Must be very dependable and detail oriented
- Effective and diplomatic communicator at all
levels
- Ability to train and mentor health workers of
different cadres
- Personal and professional maturity and
judgment
- Financial management experience
- Willingness to work additional hours in order
to meet tight deadlines.
- English and Swahili fluency is essential
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) and the Internet
- Must be willing to travel in-country and
provide on-side leadership
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, set priorities, work
independently and in a team environment
