Job Title: Counsellor
 
Location: Kisumu
 
Reporting to: Study Clinical Officer

Purpose:
 Responsible for providing HIV testing and counselling services for all study clients and also providing psychological counselling to the clients as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide voluntary HIV testing and counselling.
  • Provide counselling on HIV risk-reduction behaviour.
  • Maintain strict adherence to study protocol Administer consent to eligible clients.
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Provide services in a non-discriminatory fashion
  • Explain to the client the general procedure of PrePex.
  • Discuss return appointments for PrePex clients.
  • Offer appropriate referral options to the clients.
  • Any other official duties that may be assigned to your supervisor.
Qualifications and competencies:
  • A diploma in psychological counselling from a recognized institution with certification to provide HIV Testing and Counseling
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in provision of psychological counselling of which a minimum of 1 year should be in clinical research.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with VMMC counselling especially PrePex counselling
  • Prior GCP and Human subjects training is desirable

Job Title: Nurse Counsellor
 
Location: Kisumu
 
Reporting to: Study Clinical Officer

Purpose:
 Responsible for care and follow up for participants enrolled in research studies and non-research clients.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain strict adherence to study protocol
  • Explain the research study protocol to the patients and administer consent to eligible clients.
  • Screen and treat STIs; give health education on HIV and STI prevention and reproductive health.
  • Provide voluntary HIV testing and counselling services; screen and treat STIs; give health education on HIV and STI prevention and reproductive health.
  • Provide VMMC services using the PrePex device and the forceps guided method.
  • To ensure proper and accurate entry of data before and after study related procedures.
  • Conduct interviews on socio demographic, behavioral and health information.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and sterilisation of instruments, clinical and surgical space.
  • Maintain a regularly updated inventory of all instruments and consumables.
  • Dispense medication as needed; ensure patient safety; prevent and treat any medical emergency
  • Discuss return appointments as per study protocol.
  • Offer appropriate referral options to the clients.
  • Liaise with the laboratory, data entry staff, clinical officer, counsellor and receptionist in the provision of study services.
  • Keep information about clients in strict confidence.
  • Be fully responsible and accountable for project resources entrusted to you.
  • Follow policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Prepare and deliver narrative oral or written reports to the supervisor as needed.
  • Any other official duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications and competencies
  • Must be registered in Kenya to  Practice as a Nurse Counselor with a diploma or equivalent  in Nursing and certification to provide HIV Testing and Counseling
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience as a nurse counsellor of which a minimum of 2 years should be in clinical research
  • Experience with VMMC with certification and experience using the PrePex device strongly preferred.
  • Prior GCP and Human subjects training is desirable
