Finlays is Kenya’s largest agricultural export group employing over 21,000 people and annually exporting over 300 million stems of flowers, 7 million kilos of vegetables, 26 million kilos of black tea and 3 million kilos of tea extract. 

The organisation is geographically located in Nairobi, Naivasha, Kericho, Mt. Kenya and Mombasa and works with 1,200 vegetable out growers and 10,000 tea out growers.
 
We need dynamic individuals with strong supervisory, planning & organizing skills, interpersonal and communication skills to fill the following vacant positions in our Kericho operations.

1. Power Line Supervisor
 
Reporting to the Foreman, the job holder is expected to 
  • supervise the electrical lines team; 
  • prepare maintenance plans for power distribution lines and transformers; 
  • prepare cost estimates for new power line projects and extensions; 
  • maintain and repair overhead power lines (MV and LV); 
  • test and install transformers at project/breakdown sites; 
  • maintain and repair faulty transformers; 
  • attend to emergencies/breakdowns on power supply equipment; 
  • order and stock materials and equipment for power lines;
  • implement recommendations of inspections and audits on power supply network; 
  • maintain and keep custody of testing equipment for power lines;
  •  observe and enforce health and safety procedures and requirements at the work place.
Minimum requirements
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering – Power Option.
  • 5 years experience in electrical infrastructure works, 3 of which must have been in construction and maintenance of MV/LV power lines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of power line design and regulations
  • Appropriate ERC licence.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
2. Electrical Supervisor (Projects)
 

Reporting to the Foreman, job holder is expected to provide technical support in the execution of special projects and assignments. 

The person will also 
  • work with the electrical supervisory team to drive various new organization-wide project initiatives of electrical nature;
  • design, provide estimates and install special electrical/electronic projects;
  • supervise and lead teams in various electrical projects for flower farms and tea estates; 
  • undertake electrical audits and inspections of major electrical installations as well as domestic installations, and make recommendations for internal certification; 
  • assist ICT Department to implement various infrastructure projects and maintenance, including fibre optic installations/maintenance, etc;
  • maintain and control various electrical tools/instruments/equipment and train teams on usage; 
  • install, repair and maintain VHF radios, T&A clocks and CCTV systems;
  • guide the team in selection of appropriate solar technologies;
  • undertake installation/maintenance of selected solar applications; 
  • observe and enforce health and safety procedures and requirements at the work place.
Minimum Requirements
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 years relevant experience, 3 of which must have been in busy project set up.
  • Working knowledge of Solar, ICT installation and telephony.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AutoCAD for electrical design/drawing.
  • Appropriate ERC licence.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
3. Civil Works Assistant Manager
 
Reporting to the Fleet and Civil Works Manager, the job holder will be responsible for all technical and administrative issues relating to new and existing civil works, building infrastructure and their upkeep.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the control and monitoring of the revenue budget and capital expenditure.
  • Managing all work related documentation, purchase orders and related activities on an ERP system.
  • Development and maintenance of water supply infrastructure: pipelines, pumps and reservoirs.
  • Upkeep of hydro-electric water leats, penstocks and ancillary structures.
  • Supervision of quarrying and stone crushing operations.
  • Managing a pre-casting yard producing concrete building blocks, culverts, channels and kerbs.
  • Maintaining houses across the company.
  • Maintaining existing structures and overseeing new developments at five large tea factory sites and stand alone projects within various departments in the company.
  • Producing cost estimates on all work fronts for customer approval.
  • Maintain tarmac and murram roads within given budgets and time constraints.
  • Evaluating tenders for company projects and deciding on the suitability of contractors.
  • Managing company projects undertaken by contractors for quality control purposes.
  • Managing Health and Safety procedures at work place and ensuring compliance on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for staff within the section.
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Must be a registered engineer with the relevant board.
  • Minimum related work experience of 7 years in a similar busy work environment.
  • Computer literate with hands on experience in AutoCAD.
  • Conversant with the preparation of Contract documents.
  • Exposure to Contract law and labour/employment legislation.
  • Design experience of steelwork, reinforced concrete and water retaining structures.
  • Conversant with road construction techniques: asphalt and murram, and road drainage design.
  • Proven experience in dealing with various customer demands.
4. Supervisor - Engine Room
 
Reporting to the Fleet and Civil Works Manager, the job holder is expected to 
  • provide technical support in the repair and maintenance of all diesel engines;
  • ensuring that maintenance schedules are done and adhered to; 
  • maintaining records of machine maintenance; 
  • making sure that all repairs are carried out as fast as possible; 
  • supervising team-mates and student attachees; 
  • observe and enforce health and safety procedures and requirements at the work place.
Minimum Requirements
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum related work experience of 8 years in a busy similar set up.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
5. Factory Electrician
 
Reporting to the Factory Foreman and working in liaison with Company Electrical Manager, the jobholder will 
  • install, maintain and repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures in the black tea factory; 
  • diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components to locate cause of breakdowns and correct the problems;
  • be responsible for the connection of electrical wires to various factory components and inspection of electrical systems, equipments, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repairs, and to ensure compliance with codes; 
  • advise factory management on electrical maintenance and repairs required to be done to ensure smooth factory operations;
  • supervise team-mates to ensure set targets are achieved; train team-mates as required; 
  • observe and enforce health and safety requirements in the factory.
Minimum Requirements
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Electrician License C2.
  • Minimum related work experience of 5 years in a busy similar set up.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
