In view of our rapid expansion, we are in the process of strengthening our finance function by recruiting, qualified experienced, competent and highly motivated individuals to fill the positions of Senior Accountant and Accountant.


Position: Senior Accountant  

Responsible to:
 Chief Accountant

Department:
 Finance

Overall Responsibility:
 Assisting the Chief Accountant to manage, administer and coordinate activities in the accounting functions of the Finance Department. 

Ensuring smooth/prompt processing of work, maintaining acceptable levels of discipline, job performance and productivity.

Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities

 
Financial Budget: Providing data required for budgetary planning, assisting senior management in the preparation of the budget and budget management. Automate the budgetary preparation process.
 
Financial Transactions: Coordinating and controlling all accounting functions, ensuring all expenses are fully and properly accounted for, in accordance with company procedures /guidelines ,safekeeping of cheque books and ensuring established signing authorities are complied with, ensuring confidentiality in all financial transactions.
 
Accounting aspects of insurance transactions: Providing operating divisions with suitable guidelines on rising of accounting documents, facilitating expeditious payments of insurance claims. Ensuring reinsurance premiums are properly calculated and remitted, ensuring that all control accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis.
 
Audit Requirements: Ensuring that the company books are ready for audit within the set deadlines. Providing the necessary information for internal and external audits and conducting financial investigations as necessary.
 
Financial reports and returns: Producing monthly and quarterly revenue and other management accounts in accordance with the calendar of events for the department.

Also ensuring that the subsidiary ledgers are reconciled to the general ledger on a monthly basis and that the Audit schedules are updated on a monthly basis; preparing statutory returns and ensuring they are filed on time.
 
Salaries and wages: Ensuring that records relating to staff deductions are properly maintained and quarterly statements are maintained and produced ensuring that statutory deductions are paid on due dates.
 
Accounting and Financial systems and controls: On a regular basis reviewing both the computerized and manual systems to ensure they are efficient, identifying areas that need to be computerized or enhanced to improve overall efficiency and remove duplication of roles and transactions.

Staff Duties: 
  • Study job description of each member of staff in your section to ensure that their productivity is commensurate with their position, propose enhancements to their jobs and ensure that each one of them is properly utilized. 
  • Tax matters and other returns: Ensuring accurate computation of the corporation tax and ensuring that the same is paid and the necessary returns made as stipulated by law.
  • Ensuring that all the returns made to the Commissioner of insurance are made at the appropriate time.
  • Accounting for Branches: Ensuring that all the accounting transactions for the branches and subsidiaries are correctly captured and maintained; providing separate monthly revenue accounts, annual budgets and quarterly variance analysis.
  • Accounting: Directly supervising the accounts assistant to ensure that accounting transactions are collectively captured and maintained, produce monthly quarter and annual accounts and variance analysis, produce the annual accounts and variance analysis, and produce the annual budgets and regularly advice management of any changes that may be required on systems and procedures.
  • Fixed assets register: Ensure that a fixed assets register is maintained and that all assets are
  • readily identifiable through a unique number for each asset.
Job Specification
  • Bachelor of Commerce degree (accounting)
Professional Qualifications
  • CPA K
  • Computer literacy
Experience: 5 years working experience in insurance

Job Title:
 Accountant (2 Positions)

Department:
 Finance

Reports to:
 Finance & Investment Manager  

Overall Responsibility:
 Performing accounting duties in the general accounting section and assisting in preparation of management reports.

Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Ensure that branches have sufficient petty cash and that reimbursements are done for authentic expenses on a timely basis.
  • Communicate with branches on all issues touching on finances and receipting.
  • Reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Updating movement of fixed assets
  • Staff loans reconciliation.
  • Preparing sundry debtors and creditors.
  • Reviewing all the bank reconciliations for the company.
  • Checking and ensuring all the journals have been posted.
  • Updating bank balances and transferring funds from all the branches.
  • Assisting the Finance Manager in producing management reports.
  • Assisting the Finance Manager and external auditors in finalizing  financial statements at the end of the year.
  • Following up and updating movement of investments of the Company.
  • Checking and verification of all payments.
  • Liaising and coordinating with banks on issues such as opening bank accounts and introducing known agents among others.
Academic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration or equivalent
Professional Qualifications
  • CPA K
  • Computer literacy 
Experience
  • At least 3  years’ working experience in a busy accounting environment
