Vacancy: Resident Program Manager - Regional Program 

 Summary: The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) seeks a Resident Program Manager, based in Nairobi, Kenya, with international experience in designing and implementing regional programs, specifically with experience working with parliamentarians from Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and South Sudan. 

The Resident Program Manager will work with Kenya based staff, and national and international experts to support a regional network of women parliamentarians 

The position is available immediately.


Primary Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of regional program activities to maintain a network of women parliamentarians from Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and South Sudan;
  • Provide support to the methodology and content of the program, with particular attention to regional policy advocacy;
  • Develop an M&E strategy to determine program impact and effectiveness;
  • Build and maintain good relations with participating legislators and parliaments;
  • represent NDI at local and international conferences and meetings, and assist with NDI’s public outreach related to the program as needed
  • Monitor workshop expenses in line with annual program budget and provide a full, accurate and timely accounting of all funds;
  • Oversee, monitor and provide technical assistance to the network in the execution of advocacy activities;
  • Ensure that relevant programmatic goals are achieved, and operational and reporting requirements are adhered to;
  • Manage up to three program staff; 
Education / Experience / Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in international relations or related subject;
  • Minimum of eight years relevant work experience in international development, particularly conducting legislative programming;
  • Knowledge of and comparative experience in parliamentary development;
  • Experience working with female legislators and women’s caucuses;
  • demonstrable experience and/or knowledge of legislation development and review, policy advocacy, and network development;
  • Significant training experience and workshop design and facilitation skills;
  • Excellent oral, written, communication in English; Swahili, Somali and other relevant languages preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills excellent organizational, networking and managerial skills, as well as the ability to conduct professional political relationships;
  • Experience in creation and management of program budgets;
  • Knowledge of PC-based word processing and spreadsheet applications; and
  • Ability and willingness to travel to international locations in the region as necessary.
