Vacancy: Project Administrator and Joomla Developer

Background: The Pan African Thoracic Society (PATS) was formed to create a representative African respiratory society for the continent and to address the high burden of respiratory illnesses in Africa. 

The overall aim of PATS is to promote lung health in Africa through education, training, research and advocacy. 

Since the first election in 2011, PATS has grown, becoming a voice for lung health in Africa, undertaking educational, research and advocacy initiatives and building African capacity to address the challenges of improving lung health on the continent. 


PATS currently has 770 members from 33 different African countries.

To this effect, PATS is looking to hire a
 Project Administrator and Joomla Developer.
 
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop a database of African health professionals involved or interested in all aspects of respiratory medicine.
  • Work with national respiratory associations across the continent and health associations to populate the database of African Health professionals.
  • Managing the content development of the PATS website <http://www.africanthoracic.org>
  • Market the website to new members.
  • Maintain close contact with members (keep track of numbers) and encourage them to submit papers and information.
  • Provide timely website updates to the planning team of the African Respiratory Conference April 2016 to be hosted in Nairobi, Kenya < http://www.pats2016.com>
  • Provide administrative support to the African Respiratory Conference local team.
  • Assist in the coordination of PATS online meetings.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation (minutes of meetings, conference logistics etc);
  • Provide support to the PATS President as required.
  • Provide support to the Editorial Board of the African Journal of Respiratory team when required.
Desired Skills and Experience
 
Skills:
  • Experience with online CMS setup, adjustments and custom coding, particularly Wordpress and PHP.
  • Good knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS and WordPress is must.
  • Working knowledge in database – MySQL.
  • Knowledge in latest development trends.
  • MS Office advanced proficiency ‐ Outlook, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Detail‐orientated
  • Process and documentation driven
  • Ability to organize effectively and prioritize own workload
  • Strong dynamic, proactive and analytical thinker.

Experience:
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a similar role at a comparable level in a company for at least 3 years.
  • Prior experience planning and coordinating conferences or meetings.
Location: This is a part time position based in Nairobi, Kenya.
 
Required Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree
 
Experience: 25 years
 
Salary: Based on experience
 
Contract period: One year with renewal based on funding.
