Job Description:
 The University of Washington Kenya is a NGO that operates as the administrative arm of University of Washington research projects in Kenya. 

The organization is looking for a graduate or a student awaiting graduation with interest in enhancing their job know-how in an internship position for 3 months renewable once as a Finance Intern

This position attracts a monthly stipend. The Finance Intern will provide support to the Grants Accountant on the day-to-day administration and liaison functions for field office. 


In addition, the position will be expected to take up administrative tasks as may be assigned on a rotational basis. 

Candidates with an innate ability to multi-task are sought out for this role. 

The duties will be as follows:
  • Ensure that finance and other administrative documents are complete and are properly managed and filed
  • Assist in the preparation of payment documents
  • Filing bank statements, banking slips and payment vouchers
  • Ensure that receipts are well filed upon payments and address any issue raised during an internal audit
  • Assist in Operational and Procurement functions of the Organization
  • Assist in following up of Payment of all statutory deductions
  • Review invoices for accuracy and that they match with the LPO
  • Monitoring and follow up of all departmental requests
  • Assist in financial requests and bank reconciliations
  • Maintain financial files and records, and ensure transactions are properly recorded
  • Assisting in general office maintenance and administration
  • Review accounting ledgers to ensure that subsidiary ledger balances match general ledger Items
  • Any other duties specified by the supervisor(s) as appropriate for the role
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance or Accounting option
  • Qualified CPA part I (Added Advantage)
  • Keen and pays attention to detail
  • Ability to work well within a team and independently with minimal supervision and develop on the job
  • Possess Excel spread sheet and word-processing skills at a highly proficient level
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to determine priorities and meet multiple deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with good multi-tasking abilities and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Exposure to QuickBooks accounting package will be an added advantage
  • The candidate must maintain strict confidentiality in performing the duties of a Finance Intern
  • Flexibility and a can-do approach to tasks and the ability to adapt to a changing and challenging environment
