Chief Accountant Job in Nairobi, Kenya

AutoXpress is the leading vendor of auto parts and accessories in East Africa with a network of 25 branches across Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. 

It represents some of the best known global brands in the automotive sector ranging from Pirelli and Dunlop in the tyre sector to Bosch in the service parts sector.

As it expands its network, it is seeking to recruit a chief accountant for its Kenyan operations.
 

Chief Accountant
 
Function: Reporting to the Group CFO, the person will oversee the finance function of the Company to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions; maintaining financial records, preparation of monthly and annual
financial reports, assisting ¡n the formulation and in overall preparation of budgets and forecasts, dealing with all compliance matters relating to tax and other statutory matters and providing supervision, guidance and mentoring a team of 7 people.

This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Responsible for day to day operations of the finance department
  • Preparation of monthly management and divisional financial reports and ancillary supporting information to a strict timetable
  • Preparation of annual budgets and updated forecasts with cash flow projections
  • Liaison with budget holders for budget and forecast preparation, cost control and monitoring
  • Managing credit control function
  • Maintaining relationships with bankers
  • Responsible for maintaining the fixed asset register and controls over company’s assets
  • Responsible for preparing year-end financial statements in accordance with IFRS requirements
  • Responsible for all statutory matters relating to tax and other compliance matters falling under the finance function, including tax matters and dealing with all queries
  • Liaise with external and internal auditors on all audit related matters
  • Responsible for continuous review and improvements of the department functions to be in line with the company policies, ISO requirements and best practice
  • Review the internal controls and existing procedures and develop and implement various policies and procedures in line with best practices
  • Assist the Group CFO in monitoring and reviewing financial and accounting activities of other related companies and generating group reports for presentation to the board
  • Supervising, mentoring and motivating staff in the finance department
Qualifications & Experience
  • ACCA/CPA (K) qualification (and ideally with a Bachelor’s Degree)
  • KCSE/A level minimum grade B (minus)
  • Minimum of 6 years relevant experience of which at least 3 years should have been in a managerial or senior role in a commercial organisation
  • Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of Kenyan tax
  • Working knowledge of ERP, preferably SAP BI
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Must be a Kenyan citizen
