Our client is currently seeking a
competent and energetic Assistant Program Officer for its Secretariat based in
Nairobi.
The Assistant Program Officer will
support the Program Manager in developing strategies and plans in line with the
network’s vision and ensure implementation of those plans.
Under the guidance of the Program
Manager, the Assistant Program Officer will provide the following support:
Responsibilities
Program Management
- Assist the Program Manager in sending out, and
responding to requests to and from the existing network countries;
- Support the Program Manager in communication
with, and development of materials for, potential countries and groups
that could benefit from exposure to and participation in citizen-led
learning assessments;
- Assist in the implementation of special
projects in key thematic or technical areas aligned to the PAL Network
strategic goals and objectives;
- Assist in the development and preparation of
reports, presentations and other documents;
- Assist in the drafting of consultancy
contracts and close the documentation cycle in contract management;
Communications and Branding
- Manage and expand PAL Network’s presence on
social media (Twitter and Facebook), sourcing and sharing newsworthy
information from across the PAL Network. Produce regular reports detailing
PAL Network’s social media activity to share with staff;
- Act as the ‘Brand Guardian’ for the PAL
Network, ensuring consistency across all internal and external
communications;
- Maintain the PAL Network’s online photo
library on Flickr, encouraging and increasing its use by PAL Network
countries;
- Assist in the maintenance of the PAL Network
website from the back end in WordPress;
- Lead on the collation of information on PAL
Network activities to be presented in the twice yearly network newsletter,
and for upload to the website and across other channels;
- Maximize the PAL Network brand visibility at
conferences and events through online publicity and the production of
relevant promotional material for marketing and distribution at the event;
Global Advocacy
- Assist in preparation of documents and other
materials for international meetings and workshops/seminars related to
promoting quality education through citizen-led, household-based
assessments;
- Assist in design and implementation of
results-based communications and global advocacy strategy through
consultative process with country teams, donors and consultants;
- Support the implementation of the
communications and global advocacy strategy and ensure effective
information and communication sharing both internally (amongst existing
network) and externally;
- Assist in enhancing global awareness of
citizen-led assessments by ensuring that such information is readily
accessed through the internet, intranet and other channels;
- Undertake such other duties and
responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be required in consultation
with the Program Manager and Director.

Qualifications
Qualifications
- A Bachelors Degree in Education, Social
Sciences, Communications or other relevant field (A)
- At least one year of relevant experience in
some combination of communications, research, education, advocacy, or
consultancy (A&I)
- Demonstrable experience working in the field
of communications and ability to demonstrate knowledge of a broad range of
communications activities including previous experience using WordPress
for websites and/or blogs (A&I)
- Full professional competency in either English
or French essential, with some working proficiency in French or Spanish an
asset. Willingness to learn French or Spanish essential. (A&I)
