Project Officer Job in Kenya

ActionAid International Kenya (AAIK) is a non-partisan, non-religious organization that has been working in Kenya since 1972 to end poverty and injustice. 

AAIK is currently working in 16 counties in solidarity with women and people living in poverty and exclusion to address the underlying causes of poverty and injustice.

We seek to recruit a qualified person to fill in the following vacancy:

Project Officer - Engineering

Reporting to the Programme Officer - Engineering; the Project Officer - Engineering shall be responsible for ensuring  sound planning and implementation of AAIK’s infrastructural Climate Change in Education (CCE) project initiatives. 

The job holder shall be based in Tana River County – Hola & Garsen.

Key responsibilities for this position include;
  • Maintaining relationship between AAIK and County Public works, education departments and partner organizations
  • Carrying out mobilization of all stakeholders involved in the implementation of the CCE infrastructural component
  • Implementation of the CCE infrastructural component of the project – Construction of classrooms, dormitories, water tanks and toilets to required standards and in conformity with project documents 
  • Supervising external contractors and partner staff
  • Carrying out quality assurance on all project infrastructures
  • Carrying out and maintain records of measurements of all constructed works and recommend progress payments requested by contractors
  • Ensuring proper site handover meetings to contractors
  • Identifying and clarify the individual roles of each of the stakeholders for each project at each project site
  • Conducting site inspection meetings to review project progress and confirm adherence to project documents with all stakeholders involved
  • Bringing to the attention of the AAIK engineer of any discrepancies in the project documents (Drawings, Bills of quantities, Specifications and Contract agreements)
  • Ensuring proper site handover meetings of successfully completed projects
  • Maintaining documentation of all site meetings and stages
  • Ensuring timely, on-specification and on-budget completion of projects
  • Submiting monthly, quarterly and annual project reports
  • Any other duties assigned
Appointment to the position will be made from persons who have:
  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University.
  • Have at least 5 years’ relevant working experience
  • Have increased levels of quality assurance, transparency and accountability
