About the Organization: Nuru Kenya is a non-governmental organization currently working in Migori County, Kenya. Nuru Kenya’s mission is to end extreme poverty in remote, rural areas of Kenya. 

To this end, Nuru implements a holistic development model working with programs in Agriculture, Financial Inclusion, Healthcare, and Education. 

About the Position: The person shall directly report to the Country Director, s/he will also be responsible to the Nuru Kenya Board of Directors. 
Under the direction of the Country Director, the auditor is responsible for the timely execution of risk-based internal audits, as well as assisting in conducting other internal audits as shall be directed. 
 

Essential Job Functions:
  • Conduct audit testing of specified area and identify reportable issues and dimension of risk
  • Conduct risk assessment of assigned department or functional area within the established or required timeline.
  • Engage in continuous education and development to understand and to advise on the application of best practices/industry norms in the finance/accounting field.
  • Provide support to the organization’s anti- fraud efforts
  • Teams and works closely with External Auditors as directed
  • Evaluate and ensure regulatory compliance as per GAAP in Kenya and the organization’s financial/accounting policies and procedures.
  • Regularly conduct audits in the field on money being handled by Field Officers/Managers and report any irregularities to relevant Program Manager and to Senior Management accordingly so as to realize efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and advise on viable and feasible solutions with regards to accounting/financial procedures.
  • Communicate findings to senior management both verbally and through comprehensive reports of all audit functions from time to time, when and as may be required.
  • Continually review the suitability of internal control procedures
  • Determine scope of review in conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Establish risk- based audit programs
  • Assist the Chief Operating Officer in evaluating the organization’s readiness in case of business interruptions.
  • Comply with Nuru Kenya code of conduct policy.
  • Manage team members to their function by ensuring that they perform to expectation.
  • Implement the succession planning/deputation policy for immediate staff being supervised.
  • Perform other duties as shall be assigned to you.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or CPA finalist.
  • CPA or CIA preferred.
  • Hands on knowledge and skills in the use and application of GAAP.
  • 3-4 years working experience as an Internal Auditor or Independent Accountant or any other industry experience.
  • Experience conducting field audits, especially working with field staff (e.g. Field Officers) handling cash
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills
  • Proactive and meticulous.
  • Financial Systems knowledge and familiarity
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly and be able to multi-task.
  • A demonstrated understanding and commitment to the principles and ideologies of servant leadership.
Working Conditions:
 
Work is performed both in an office environment as well as in the field. Some work is also expected from the computer at home during evenings and weekends during busier seasons. 

The person may from time to time, be required to work in other areas where Nuru Kenya has operations.

Salary:
 Commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience.
