Definition of the Role:
 The Field Officer acts as a liaison between Soko and the artisan community. 


He/she aims to assess their needs, implement all relevant programs as outlined by the Supervisor / Management, address problems and facilitate trainings and collect relevant content to improve sales within the web community.

Role: To be proactive in providing tailored support and information to anyone in the artisan community. 

This would include the field visits through different areas of Nairobi, promoting relevant technical competences, business tools, production standards, support services where applicable and developing/facilitating a network of artisans who believe and promote our e-commerce platform.

Scope:
 A field officer promotes a wide range of educational and developmental activities to all members of the artisan community. 

Soko's business literacies kits aim to translate key business skills into user-friendly, context-appropriate tools for our artisans. 

This enables our vendor community to better adapt and respond to selling their products online to a global market. 

Duties:
 While tasks vary depending on the specific role and departmental priorities, they typically include:
  • Engaging with individuals and community groups.
  • Identifying local interests and needs and ways to meet them;
  • Helping potential artisans to overcome existing barriers to learning   
  • Formulating service plans and priorities, in cooperation with other organizations
  • Encouraging and influencing the development of new learning opportunities through formal and informal community meetings as well as individual mentoring by mentors;
  • Community capacity building through training and communication with artisans through bulk SMS and other communication means.   
  • Identifying the training needs of the artisans and providing for them; working with Recruitment & Programs Manager  to design and implement training modules during monthly mentors’ meetings.
  • Develop relationships with artisans and understand their context.
  • Develop relationships with other relevant local organizations that might be able to provide support and information in regard to any area of interest.
  • Contribute to content creation efforts (website features, blog posts, photos of events ect).

  • Training and/or Event planning experience
  • Some photography experience is ideal
  • Bachelor’s Degree  or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
  • Must be able to work independently and be self confident in addressing a crowd
  • Interest in working with smartphones for data collection
  • Previous research work experience is an advantage
  • Must have excellent organization and time management skills
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented and able to balance multiple tasks at once
  • Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and integrity
  • Outgoing, energetic and friendly personality who is able to manage stress well
  • Must be comfortable receiving detailed feedback in order to improve performance
