African Economic Research Consortium
(AERC) is a not-for-profit Pan-African institution, established in 1988,
dedicated to the advancement of economic policy research and graduate training
in economics in Africa.
AERC agitates the provision of
capacity building in economic policy in Francophone and Anglophone African
countries through provision of support in the areas of economic policy research
and training.
AERC is seeking to recruit a dynamic
and results oriented individual to fill the position of Research Manager.
Reporting to the Director of
Research, the successful candidate will provide support in the intellectual
leadership, strategic direction and management of the research programmes with
emphasis on collaborative research, commissioned studies and special workshops.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and design new Collaborative
Research projects in line with the strategic focus of AERC.
- Oversee implementation of Collaborative
Research projects and related activities (including review of proposals),
and prepare progress reports on all projects in accordance with the agreed
guidelines.
- Design implementation plans, and develop
monitoring and evaluation systems for the Collaborative Research Projects
to ensure that the indicators/outputs and outcomes are met.
- Provide support to project coordinators,
steering committee members, resource persons, researchers and other
members of the research network.
- Organize research project meetings, steering
committee meetings, workshops and seminars.
- Develop funding proposals and assist in fund
raising activities.
- Ensure that strategies and budgets for the
annual program of work are in place and executed flawlessly.
Professional Qualifications:
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics or
related Discipline
- At least 5 years’ experience in managing
research and outreach programs in Economics.
- Extensive research experience and strong
publication record.
- Outstanding drafting, writing and
communication skills in English. Fluency in oral and written French is an
added advantage.
- Experience in fund-raising and in donor
liaison.
- Financial Planning and Project Management
Skills.
- Self-starter, and works effectively with
minimal supervision.
For this position, good
communication, interpersonal and team playing skills are essential.
Willingness to travel and the ability
to work under pressure and meet deadlines is crucial.
