The International Peace Support
Training Centre (IPSTC) was established to enhance operational capacity for
peace support operations through training and research for the benefit of military,
police, and personnel.
The centre wishes to engage a competent candidate on a contractual basis in the following position:
Internal Auditor
Job Purpose: Examine and evaluate the adequacy, effectiveness
and efficiency of the organization’s internal control systems and procedures
and recommend corrective actions to improve operations, enhance internal
controls and reduce costs where possible.
The Individual will be reporting to
the Director.
Principle Accountabilities:
- Draft the Internal Audit Charter of the
organization in line with the international standards.
- Develop risk–based annual audit plans
detailing the scope, nature and timing of audit activities.
- Design internal audit procedures and work
programs.
- Advise management on the resourcing
requirements for the Internal Audit function, including any potential
outsourcing arrangements.
- Conduct internal audits to assess the
adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of the established internal
controls and procedures.
- Identify key areas of risk within the
organization and propose appropriate controls to mitigate the risks.
- Review the accuracy, timeliness and relevance
of financial information and other disclosures provided to management.
- Discuss audit findings and recommendations
with line managers and report significant issues to senior management.
- Prepare audit reports in line with the
approved audit plan.
- Monitor the timely implementation of the
management actions recommended in the audit reports.
- Provide senior management and the Board of
Auditors with an opinion on the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of
the internal controls in the organization.
- Formulate and develop an internal Monitoring
and Evaluation department.
- The successful individual will be the point of
contact for all external audits.
Employment Standards
Ability To:
- Assist the development of an internal control
culture, including training to staff.
- Monitor the trends and developments in the
internal audit area.
- Conduct ad-hoc investigations and reviews as
requested by senior management.
- Participate in the Board meetings.
- Liaise with the external auditor on internal
control issues.
- Work independently and produce reports in
time.
Knowledge Of:
- Expertise in the functioning of an
international institution.
- Expertise in internal audit, risk and control
functions.
- Excellent communications and presentation
skills.
- Audit techniques (work programs, tests,
sampling. documentation, reports)
- Internal audit, COSO, internal controls,
compliance and risk management
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or
Business Administration
- A master’s degree would be an added advantage.
- Internationally recognized accounting or
auditing certification, such as CPA, CIA etc. (desirable)
- IT MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, advanced
Excel)
